"You damn bastard!" Rai was standing right in front of Izuku as he waited for Bakugou to come at him with his quirk. Man he hated this guy's attitude, how he viewed the world, and how he was praised in class. He had seen enough of the kid's behavior to fully know that he was a jack ass through and through.
When Rai first attended his new school in Japan he had heard students talking about some kid who wanted to be a hero but his only drawback was that he was quirkless. He was confused with this information, why would a quirkless kid try to be a hero when the odds are stacked against him? But then he thought that there was a possibility of it happening because he read comic books about people who didn't have powers but did become heroes. Granted they had the money to afford most of their stuff but still, they were heroes none the less. A week after he got settled into school he bumped into this kid with large backpack and notes that fell on the ground. "Oh sorry man, I need to watch my step. Here, let me help you with that." Rai said as he began to help the student. "N-No you don't have to, really its my fault, I was spacing out" The student replied.
As Rai picked up one of the notebooks, he saw that it had All Might's picture drawn on it. "Ah so you're an All Might fan huh?" He asked as he held up the book to the student who was picking up his second note book off the floor. Looking at the him, he saw that the kid had curly green hair that somewhat resembled broccoli and a very shy and timid personality. He handed the student back his notebook as the guy began to speak. "Yeah I am, he's my biggest role model. He so cool and brave that I want to be a great hero just like him" the guy said as a smile started to form on his face. Rai in turn smiled as well, he knew his uncle was a big deal and he shouldn't have been surprised that he would find a fan of his at school. "Well hey man I'm pretty sure you'll get there, as long as you keep pushing and making sure you train yourself and your quirk." Rai said as he began to pick up the last notebook that was on the floor. It was then that he saw the guy's smile fade and turn into a frown.
"Well...sadly the thing is.....I don't have a quirk." the kid nearly choked on those last words as Rai looked at the kid in shock and realization. This was the kid that people were talking about and making fun of. Rai felt bad for assuming that the guy had a quirk and fell silent as the kid keep going. "Its been hard for me ever since I found that out, for so long I've been made fun of and told to give up on my dream, but...I want to prove others that their wrong, that I can become a hero." He said as he clutched his notebooks hard. Rai somewhat understood were the kid was coming from. Hell he was bullied many times back in his hometown he knew what it was like to be made fun of for not being the same as everyone else.
"Hey if you don't mind me asking, what's your name man?" Rai asked. The boy looked at with half a smile, "Izuku, Izuku Midoriya. Nice to meet you." "Nice to meet you as well Izuku, I'm Rai Kusanagi. You can just call me Rai." he held out his hand as Izuku struggled to put all his notebooks in one hand and shake Rai's hand with the other. 'This kid has a good heart and a strong will, I hope his dream comes true.' Rai thought as he left the school yard with his first new friend from Japan.
After that Rai and Izuku became best friends as time moved on. Rai had introduced Izuku to his mother and sister, to which they were very happy to meet his new friend. His sister had tried messing with Izuku which made the curly haired kid a blushing mess. Rai found it funny as he figured that Izuku didn't have much experience with girls at all. Izuku had introduced his mother to Rai and Ms. Midoriya was so happy that she ended hugging Rai with the biggest hug he ever received in his life. Rai and Izuku discussed everything hero related and talked about what kind of quirks Izuku wished he could have. Whenever All Might was brought into the discussion Rai refrained from mentioning his relationship with the pro hero because he didn't want Izuku to be jealous, that and he knew that if he did Izuku would probably pass out due to excitement knowing that he at least knows someone who knew All Might personally.
But as he started to understand and care about Izuku like he was his brother, he soon started to grow a deep unsettling relationship with Bakugou. He had learned that Bakugou made it his mission to never forget reminding Izuku about how he was a "Quirkless loser" who should stop trying to become something he can't. It really pissed off Rai whenever he heard about Bakugou messing with Izuku. Rai had made it his mission to always back up Izuku when Bakugou had gotten too close to him and keep the Explo-douchebag from putting his hands on him. Because of this Rai and Bakugou had become rivals, causing them to get into fights. The fight they were having this time was fight number eleven. Amazingly out of all those fights, it was always a stand still.
Izuku was sometimes amazed by how well the two boys held their ground against each other. Bakugou of course found it annoying that someone who dared to rival him set foot at "his" school. He found it even more annoying that this new kid had the balls to stand up for someone like Deku. He didn't think much of the kid at all, he didn't care about the kids lightning quirk or how it could evolve over time. He only care about being number one, being the strongest hero there is. But one day when he was about to bully Izuku and once again bash him for thinking about hero stuff, "BOOM" here comes this new guy coming in and telling off Bakugou. That one action by Rai had sealed he and Bakugou's relationship and it didn't go anywhere further than that.
"Piss off Hot Head! I'm getting sick of your bullshit as it is already!" Rai exclaimed as he started to summon his lightning in both his hands. Bakugou rushed at him with the intent to put Rai down for the count but he didn't count on Rai knowing which hand he'd swing at him with. Izuku had told him a while back that Bakugou always went with his right first whenever he was about to hit him. With that knowledge he quickly side stepped Bakugou, dodging his right hook and elbowing him in the gut, but he wasn't finished there. Rai summoned a little lightning in his left palm, placing in on Bakugou's chest, zapping him.
He knew how much power he needed to at least knock someone out for the count so he wasn't worried about how much power he had behind this attack. And with that Bakugou had fell down flat on his face. Rai stood up straight as he shook himself off making sure his uniform wasn't completely messed up (Bakugou did manage to give Rai a challenge of course). He walked over to Izuku, helping him up and walking him to the front of the school yard.
"You didn't have to fight Kacchan you know, you could've hurt him really bad Rai." Izuku said as they walked out the gate and headed down the street. "Well until he leaves you alone and treats you with respect like everyone should, that'll continue to happen man, can't just sit there a let him beat you up bro." Rai replied. He wasn't about to let Izuku go through what he went through anymore if he could help it. As they got to the station, they said their goodbyes to each other as they parted ways. Rai headed to his favorite burger joint a few block from his house to pick up his order that he made before he left school.
When he got there he saw something (or rather someone) that little did he know would make him revisit old feelings that he thought he buried a long time ago. When he walked in he went to the counter and told the cashier about his order. "One number five with extra pepper jack and a large cookies n' creme shake. Here you go kid." the lady said. "Thank you ma'am." Rai said as he began to pay the lady. As he waited for his change he felt a tap on his shoulder and turned around, he was soon starting to feel butterflies in his stomach.
