Chapter 3:

I don't know what's worse, not knowing how he is or him not responding to my messages. I waited for his text that never came. I walked home from school alone that day. The sky with filled with the puffiest white clouds. I lived 3 miles away from the school so walking home takes a little bit of time. I sighed and plugged my earbuds in. I blasted Mayday Parade as I walked past the hospital. I forced myself to keep walking and continue on my way. I couldn't help but to get the feeling that I was being watched though. Every move I made felt staged and unreal, like I'm just a pawn in a chess game. I shrugged the feeling off and switched the song to Miserable at Best. I threw my hands in the pocket of the sweatshirt I had brought along. I stared at the cracks in the sideways as I continued on the path, not really paying attention to where I was going. When I finally decided to look up I was on the edge of town. The Beacon Hills Reserve laid right in front of me. It seemed very still and serene but something rustled inside. Suddenly a pair of bright yellow eyes were staring back at me. Within seconds they were gone. I took deep breaths before running home. Entering my house was like entering a ghost town, no one was ever home. "Work comes first." They'd say. I shook the negative thoughts out of my mind and walked to the fridge. I grabbed a can of Dr. Pepper and made my way over to the couch.

After 9:30 rolled by I decided it was investigation time. I grabbed my purple penny board and threw on my converse before writing my mom a note saying I went out. I slung my camera over my shoulder and rushed out the door. I hopped on my board and rode until I was in the middle off town. I came across a group of freshman hanging out by their usual place. I tried not to make eye contact with them but I noticed two of them staring me down. Garrett and Violet were leaned up against the hood of a car and trying not to make their glances too obvious. I saw two glowing eyes from behind were they stood and I felt a sick pain in my stomach. I pushed off the ground with my foot and started on my way again. Something told me I wasn't alone though.... Something was following me and I need to find out why. I stopped by the reserve again and snapped some pictures quickly before turning around and heading home. I checked my phone as I made my way back into my house and sighed. Nothing.

The next morning I woke up extra early to get ready. I threw on a black high waisted skirt with a loosely cropped, white lacy shirt and a black jacket over. I also curled my hair in loose, wavy curls before throwing on my Los Angeles beanie. I found my black combat boots from my closet and made my way down stairs. I found my dad in the living room and my mom in the kitchen.

"Morning." I said before sitting at the table. My mom threw a few pancakes on my plate, along with a scoop of eggs. "Thanks." I mumbled before digging in. I finished in about 5 minutes than ran back upstairs. I slipped on my favorite ring which was shaped in an arrow. I grabbed my compass necklace and threw it around my neck before grabbing my back and saying goodbye to my family. I sat on the curb at the end of the block and waited for Liam to come join me. My hope started running thin as the time dragged on. Finally the school bus got here and there was still no sign of Liam. I sighed before taking my place on the bus and sitting alone. After about 10 minutes Nessa joined me and took the seat a next to me.

"Hey." She said while dropping her bag next to mine. "You look nice." I smiled and said thanks before looking out the window. We didn't speak much on the way there but my mind had so many things running around that I wanted to tell her about. I saw the school come into view and groaned. As I made my way off the bus I became paranoid again. I glance behind me and saw Garrett and Violet staring intently at me. I gulped and rushed off the bus and into the school. By the time Nessa caught up to me I was at my locker. "What's going on with you?" She questioned. "You've been really acting strange." She added.

"I'm fine Nessa!" I saw Garrett enter the hall and smirk over at me. My breath hitched as I grabbed my notebook, shut my locker, and  I prepared to speak again. "I promise but I really have to go." I said shakily and excused myself. I rushed down the halls, turning back every once in a while to make sure they weren't following, and they weren't. As I looked back on last time I slammed into a body in front of me.

"Oh, Hey Addi." Liam said. His bright blue eyes made my knees go weak. I smiled and said hi.

"How'd you get to school today?" I asked him.

"Oh... I ran...." He said nervously.

"3 miles on a hurt ankle?" I questioned.

"Um yea...." He said and rubbed his neck sheepishly. For the first time today he looked me over and smiled. "You look nice." He said confidently, making me blush a deep shade of pink.

"Thanks." I said and walked with him. He still has his backpack so I assumed we we're heading to his locker.

"So I was wondering if you're free tonight.... Because if you are maybe we could hang. Mason's having a movie night and you could like come with me if you want and hang out." He asked a lot less confidently than before, which was totally adorable. I smiled.

"Actually I'm totally free if you wanna hang out." He smiled as I spoke and we stopped.

"Sweet. I'll see you in science." He said and gave me a quick peck on the cheek. I froze and smiled.

"Did that just happen?" I asked myself quickly. I looked at him at his locker and watched him glance at me, blue eyes shining brighter than ever before.

You can say I practically counted down the minutes until 2nd period. I walked into out science room and took my usual seat. I pretended to doddle in my notebook until Liam took a seat behind. I turned to him and smiled as he smiled back at me. I nearly fell out of my seat when the class bell rang. I refocused my attention to the front of the room for the first 5 minutes before getting bored. After finishing the worksheet we got I turned around to find Liam struggling at it. I smiled at how cute he looked with a confused look upon his face. Within a matter of seconds the bell rang and we all packed up and exited the room. Garrett bumped past me as Mason and Liam talked behind me but they both stopped when the girl who was talking to Scott yesterday ascended down the stairs. Liam's eyes nearly hung out of his head. I felt a feeling of jealousy well up in my stomach as he stared at her. I watched as she tripped and mental cheered in my head only to be disappointed as he rushed to her aid. I sighed and walked away. Boys should be the last thing on my mind right now anyways. It doesn't matter. I repeated over and over again in my head but it did matter, a lot. I wasted the rest of the day thinking about him and the new girl and before I knew it school was over. I still have tonight though, right? I took the bus home that day and waited at my house for Liam to text me. I paced the floor and checked my phone every couple of moments before giving up and throwing my phone on the couch. I didn't check it again until about 8:30 p.m. It was flashing with one missed text from Liam.

From: Liam <3

Hey I totally forgot about our plans! Im so sorry! There's a party at Lydia's lake house tonight and u should come!

I smiled and asked my mom to take me. It was a short dive and she dropped my off on the street. I thanked her and got out. I watched as she pulled away but after turning to walk into the party I froze. Violet stood with her back towards me and a man was on his knees in front of her. I didn't have a very good view but I watched as his head fell onto the street and body fall next to it. I stumbled backwards and started running for the party after knowing she had noticed me. As soon as I got into the house I looked for a place to hide. I felt an arm grab me and pin me up against a door.

"Congrats Addison, you officially made our list." Violet said before going over to Garrett and wrapping her arms around him. I gulped hard and felt lightheaded as her words ran through my mind.

Congrats Addison, you officially made out list.
