Amir peered at the ocean in front of him and took a deep breathe. The salty air and pungent smell of the ocean filled his body. The smell did not bother him at all as he took another whiff. Amir had to sniff his upper lip as he looked at the dark ocean in front of him. The ocean reminded him of Delicious's deep, dark, and mysterious. But he always found himself drawn to her nothing could ever stop him from ever leaving her.
The waves clashed on the sandy beach and clapped as they receded back into the ocean to slap the shore again. The bright full moon illuminated the ocean on this dark night making it look like a stair way to heaven. The stars shined and twinkled in the night sky next to the moon. Amir lowered his head and softly prayed out, "Moon goddess bless me and my marriage and protect me from those who want to harm me!"
Bowing his head, Amir kissed his left index finger and walked towards the beach. Removing a golden ring, Amir threw his offering into the ocean. A large wave swallowed the ring and took it into the depths of the ocean. Looking up at the moon with his bright eyes that twinkled under the moonlight, Amir closed his eyes to respect the goddess and the ocean. As a child, Amir was taught to respect the moon and give her offerings. The moon queen was a generous goddess who had a big heart and would protect her followers whom she called her children.
Hearing the movement of the sand rustling, Amir slowly opened his eyes but did not turn around he knew exactly who it was making that noise. Delicious slowly walked to Amir but did not walk in front of him but stayed behind him saying, "So you pray to a moon goddess?"
Amir slowly turned his head to look at Delicious saying," Is that a problem?"
"No I am more of a ancestor veneration type of girl," Delicious answered truthfully. Amir turned his head and hummed in bewilderment than replied," I thought you black Americans were mostly Christian."
Delicious chuckled as she pouted out her bottom lip before saying," Black Americans? Hmmmm. I thought we call came from Africa but I digress. Not everyone believes in the same religion Amir. You should not group as black people in one category we are all not monolith Amir."
"I know that but you do not look like you practice what you preach Delicious Franks or would you prefer to be called Shagari!"
Delicious took a step back in disbelief before she caught herself. It seems as if Amir had did some digging into her background. The thought of her past made Delicious mentally cringe and she clenched her jaw in anger. Amir could see the angry expression on Delicious's face through his peripheral but said nothing. The ocean seemed to have caught the hostile vibe and the waves seemed to have hit the shore harder. The wet sea water began to wet both Delicious and Amir's feet as it began to rise.
"When did he leave you?" Amir asked unexpectedly. Delicious felt a lump grow in her throat as her throat began to close. It honestly felt like her throat was about to close as she exhaled shaky breaths.
Delicious took a step back and lowered her head in embarrassment. Amir heard the water splash but still continued to look at the ocean intently as if he was thinking of something. Delicious gave a dark chuckle than she replied coldly," You know the answer to that, Amir!"
"I don't know, so you answer me!" Amir sharply replied as soon as Delicious spoke giving her no time to think of her next sentence.
"It was at 14 okay that is when he left, Amir. And he never came back," Delicious replied coldly with hatred in her eyes. Amir could feel her anger and clenched his jaw in irritation.
