Chapter 20
Jacob
Leaving Maggie on Deyjen is like sighing a big breath of relief.
She’s finally gone. The only problem with her gone is that we have to find someone else to work and process the computers. It doesn’t matter. We’ll find someone somewhere hidden in this ship. I turn to an officer near me.
“Put out a message to everyone in the ship, asking for all the machine-powers to the control room.” She nods and runs off.
“Well, she’s finally gone. Not quite floating in space, but close enough,” Andrea says, walking up beside me. I chuckle. I feel very close to start laughing hysterically.
In such a short time, I’ve lost a ship full of Tybaran (our tribe) people, my best friend Ovain, we got rid of Maggie, and we’re still in this slow rocket that won’t arrive for 6 more months on Earth. But I’m fine. I won’t lose it.
“Well, now we have other matters to attend to, like contacting the Tybaran council, focusing on getting to Earth quickly, and finding a new navigator,” Andrea informs me. I stand up straight.
“You’re absolutely right,” I say with conviction. I clear my throat and turn to the workers.
“Attention, everyone!” I wait for the room to quiet down. “We need to concentrate now, and concentrate on the current situation. No matter what happened a few days ago or a few seconds ago, now we move forward.” I’m going to continue with my speech but I’m rudely interrupted by someone bursting in through the door.
“Commander! I found this in Soldier Maggie’s bunkroom!” the man shouts, thrusting a thin, silver device under my nose. It’s a universal video communicator.
“And what makes you think he cares right now?” Andrea says with fire in her eyes.
“It’s got records of her contacting Earth!” Everyone in the room freezes. I snatch the UVC away from the man and open it up. I tap a few buttons and come up with her conversation history. It’s silent as I find each person she has talked to ever since we picked her up from Almnerixi.
The most common person on the list is Evan, her twin brother, who stayed on the Noxian side while Maggie had come with us. Evidently, that’s not the case.
“Maggie the Idiot has turned into Maggie the Spy,” Andrea says breathlessly. I’m speechless.
“Get us back to Deyjen now.”
