Chapter 22
Andrea
The night after we leave Maggie on Deyjen, I dream.
I dream I’m down on Earth, in some strange village, filled with strange buildings with pointed roofs and hard, blackened streets. I’m sitting on a cold, metal seat in a random patch of grass and a few sparse trees. From what I remember from the couple of human study classes I’ve taken, this is what they call a park, often located in urban sprawl neighborhoods.
I feel as though I’m waiting for someone.
Suddenly, a name springs to my mind.
“Adrianna.”
I can feel her wake; I can practically see her running downstairs in panic. I laugh at the stress I’m causing her.
“Adrianna.” I call her name again, and see her run down the street.
“Adrianna!” I say for a third time, and now I can really see her, not just in my mind. She runs up to me and halts.
For a slight moment, I’m stunned. I see myself. But then I realize the differences. She’s slightly taller than me, and her hair has a more flyaway look to it. Her eyes are pulled tight around the corners.
I recover quickly and narrow my eyes at her.
“I’ve been waiting,” I say menacingly. Her eyes widen in horror as I use my power to mentally throw fire everywhere around us. We are in a firestorm, an inferno. I take a step forward, causing Adrianna to flinch. I let out a low laugh, which slowly grows to a demonic cackle. Adrianna starts screaming. With each step I take, her screaming grows louder, and I send more and more things into a raging blaze. I can see her clothes start to burn away, but I feel nothing. I am invincible, I am all-powerful. Nobody can hurt me with my wall of fire.
With a final step, my dream halts, and I awake.
