First Time Parents

It’d been a long day and you were exhausted. Being pregnant was harder than it sounded, but you enjoyed it in a strange way. You were deep asleep when Niall turned on the small lamp on the bedside. He had to shake you a few times before you were pulled back into reality. Your eyes fluttered open to Niall’s panicked face and your hand flew to your small baby bump like a natural reflex. “You’re fine,” he assured you, his finger nails between his teeth. “This is about me.”

Lifting yourself into a sitting position you searched his expression. “What’s wrong, Ni?”

Your husband winced before confessing his fear; “What if I’m rubbish at being a dad?”

You were the pregnant one, but it was Niall who was always getting emotional and fussing over little things that didn’t really bother you. “You’re worrying about this now?” you stifled a yawn to say.

He ran his hand over his face, looking more distressed. You reached out to him and pulled his head into the crook of your neck. “I just don’t want to let it down, I’m so scared. What if I make a mistake?”

You smiled softly; you’d definitely chosen the right guy to have a baby with. Your hand circled your stomach like you always did when you were talking about the little one. “You realize we have this baby now, it’s too late to go back.”

“Oh God.”

“Niall,” you sighed and when he lifted his head you caught his eye. “You’re gonna be great.”

His eyes flicked away from yours to pick at the quilt between you both. “How do you know?”

“Because you’re amazing with Theo. I never have to stop you from doing anything disastrous when we look after him. You’re even good with kids you don’t know at signings. I’ve seen you, Niall, your perfect in everyway and im 101% sure you are the perfect dad for our children!! ”

With a small smile he slid his hand up to yours on your bump. “Thanks. You always know what to say when I need it.”

“That’s why you married me,” you pressed a kiss to his lips before rolling over to go back to sleep. Turning off the light Niall nudged over and held his arms around you and your baby as you drifted back to sleep.
