AU —
Roman and Virgil were having a heated argument about some random crap that sprouted into something bigger. They spewed out insults they didn't mean, held glares full of resentment from the stress of life and bottled up emotions. They hadn't meant to get so angry towards the other, but for both of them work had been hard recently, and virtually they had no one else to rant to, or talk to.
Both men felt like they would start crying, or just collapse to the floor to silently work over the headache that was building up, but the argument stopped abruptly after one small movement.
In the midst of the heat, Roman threw his arm up to emphasise his point, noticing how Virgil flinched back and covered his face with his hands, staying completely still as the room fell to silence. Roman stared at him for a few moments, worried he had done something wrong, he didn't...mean to scare him - Virgil was throwing his arms up before, he didn't think...
Was it his arm? Or had he just given up and wanted to cry? No...if that was true, why did he look so frightened? Had he...?...no, he would've told Roman, surely, he would've told his best friend he had been in an abusive relationship before. It was a strong accusation, but Roman had never hit him before, only playfully, and unless he had been hit in the past on a regular bases why would he flinch so badly?
Taking small steps forward Roman threw his arms around his close friend, pulling him close as the shorter man shook a little, hands still hiding his face that slowly leaked tears down his cheeks.
"Come on" Roman murmured gently, taking Virgil to the couch so the two could sit down and cuddle closely, helping the darkly dressed boy calm down while playing with his hair, murmuring soft apologies every so often. Eventually, Virgil slowly sat up, sending his friend a weak smile.
"Sorry, I...didn't mean to argue"
"Neither did I" Roman smiled, reaching over to hold his hand.
"Friends again?"
Virgil chuckled, holding it back.
"Best friends"
