Trigger warning: abusive parents

The day I write a OneShot without one mention of bad parents will be the day I die

"Runaway?"

"Runaway..."

The day Virgil suggested the idea Patton could feel nerves pump through his body at rapid speeds, the thought of escaping from this place was always on his mind, especially when his parents are particularly angry at the world, and want to take it out on their son - but he never wanted to go through with it. He was alone, he had no one, and knew it wouldn't end well.

Ever since he befriended Virgil, much had changed, and soon, everything will. They both found out the other had less than ideal parents - much like themselves - and truly thought nothing could give them freedom like running away. They'd be separated if they went the safer route, away from the only person they've ever bonded with.

It was dark out, the moon deciding to not show it's face that night. Patton sat on his doorstep, bag hanging from his shoulders, bright blue eyes scanning the street in search for his friend who promised to meet him at exactly one am. He checked his cracked watch again and again, he wasn't late, but Patton was getting anxious by the minutes - the minutes that felt like hours.

As soon as the small hand landed on one, the boy showed up, bangs covering his eyes, baggy clothing hiding his scrawny, scarred body. Patton smiled weakly, standing up and sharing a soft, brief hug with the boy he could trust with anything. They leaned back, tightened their hands together, and didn't look back, not once. Sitting on the bus silently, they didn't share a word, but neither needed to.

Of course, if they were ever to return, they would be older, wiser, and protected.

And they would be together.
