"Is that our brakes I'm smelling?" I started to panic as I saw a cloud of smoke puff up from the front, drivers side brake.

The smell of burning rubber attached itself to me, and all I wanted to do was hurl myself out of the moving vehicle. But I knew I had to keep calm since my mother was already freaking out, and when I turned back in my seat to check on my little brother, he was panicking too.

Just stay calm. We're almost there and then we can check this out. For now we are fine.

That was the biggest lie I have ever told myself in my life.

And it's the one scenario that I can't help but wonder what would have happened if I had told myself differently.

But what's done is done. No matter how hard it is to tell myself that.
