"Hello?" I asked, adjusting the phone in my good hand while trying to wake myself up. I had a habit of not checking who was calling me, and I had just woken up, so I was a bit out of it.

"This is Doe, right?" I instantly recognized the voice as Joshua's, and looked at the caller ID on my phone.

"Yeah, but why are you calling me from Vernon's phone?" Really, it was "why are you calling me in general?" Vernon never lets Joshua, or any one for that matter, talk to me alone. I'm pretty sure he wants to keep me for himself.

"Vernon-ah hopped into the shower a few minutes ago, and he mentioned how you needed help finding a job?" He posed it more as a question than a statement, and I sighed at how immature stealing someone's phone sounded.

"I do, but I have a plan now. Did you have any ideas though?" It never hurts to ask, I guess.

"No, but a certain opportunity is coming up-" Joshua was cut off by another familiar voice in the background.

"Hey, hyung. Is that my phone?" I heard some rustling and a quick "bye" before he ended the call. I laughed to myself, but then remembered what Joshua was trying to say before being interrupted.

Opportunity for what?

"Are you almost ready to go?" I was snapped out of my thoughts with Rachel coming into my room. I nodded and grabbed the plastic bag with my few thing in it, and wrapped it around my wrist so I had full use of my crutches.

"I am truly sorry that we're making you leave, Doe." Rachel said quietly with her gaze on the empty sidewalk as soon as we left the hospital.

"I understand. I didn't expect to stay there forever anyways." She sent me a sympathetic glance and continued walking beside me towards my new apartment. Rachel was definitely right about it being near my physical therapy place, since it's right next door.

Rachel used the first key to get into the main door for the apartment before handing it over to me along with another.

"The other key gets you into apartment 16. I'm sorry I can't walk in with you, but I have to head back. You're on the first floor, so you shouldn't need to go up any stairs anyways." I nodded and Rachel quickly wrapped me into a hug.

"Thank you for everything." I whispered sincerely, and she smiled before letting me go and walking away. I sighed and maneuvered my way through the complex. I eventually found a door with the number 16 on it, and used my other key to let myself in.

The apartment wasn't much, but I instantly loved it. The walls were all painted a light blue-grey, and beige curtains were draped around the windows. A beige love seat took up the majority of the living room, and faced the window.

Directly off of the living room was the kitchen, which only had a stove, refrigerator and sink with some counter space connecting it all. The back wall of the kitchen was encompassed with a metal rack of cleaning supplies. I opened the cupboards above the sink and stove, only to find a couple plates, bowls, and cups, along with a little bit of food. The cupboards underneath the counter held a few old pots and pans, but that was really it in the kitchen.

On the other side of the apartment, was a single bedroom and bathroom. The bedroom had it's own window, with a twin sized bed and a nightstand. A closet took up half of the other wall, and contained a few hangers.

A door connected the bathroom and bedroom, which only had a bathtub, sink, and toilet. Not that I really want a mirror anyways.

I walked out of the bathroom through the door the lead the the living room, and threw my bag onto the couch. I was about to join it, when I noticed something taped to the door. Upon further inspection, I discovered it was my address.

"I live in New York City? Since when?!" I made my way to the window as fast as I could, and I could just barely make out the empire state building.

"Well shoot. I must be on the outskirts then." I sat down on the couch and placed my crutches near me before pulling out my phone to text Vernon since he was probably in practice.

Me: Since when did I live in New York City???

I turned off my phone and directed my gaze back outside, but the notification bell brought my attention back to it.

Vernonie 😉: You didn't know? What made you realize?

Me: The address taped to my apartment door.

Vernonie 😉: lol

I sighed and got up from the couch to take a picture and show him. Just because I could tell he found this hilarious.

Vernonie 😉: We're staying in a hotel not far from you when we come for kcon!! Does this mean I can visit??

I furrowed my brow in confusion, but then realized this must be what Joshua had meant to tell me earlier. I smiled to myself at the thought of seeing him again in person. This time on less awkward circumstances.

Me: Anytime :)
