Silently Falling

Chapter 14

For a second I was in shock at how aware he was of my actions even when he wasn't even looking at me.

We locked eyes for a prolonged moment before the sound of heavy footsteps distracted us.

"Baby!" I heard a voice call out from behind me as a figure whirled by my side and planted itself on Rhyan's lap.

I blinked twice to make sure that I was not seeing things. Ashley was sitting on top of Rhyan with her vice-like arms around his neck.

"You look so handsome today." She batted her eyelashes at Rhyan flirtatiously. I couldn't help but notice how even someone as tall as Ashley looked smaller as she made herself comfortable on Rhyan's lap.

I adverted my eyes and tuned out most of her nonsense blabbering as I felt my chest tighten.

What is it that I'm feeling? Disappointment? Jealously?....Woah Woah, hold it right there. Why on earth would I be jealous? Or even disappointed? Nah, I'm just a bit surprised because I knew for a fact that Rhyan wasn't seeing anyone but I didn't know that he and Ashley were this close. Yes, that's it.

I let my gaze travel back to Rhyan whose dark eyes were fixated on me, intently studying my face. To me, it looked like he wasn't even listening to anything Ashley was talking about as he made no effort to tear his eyes away from my face. If I didn't know better, I would've thought that he was gauging my reaction but, he was Rhyan Knight, he didn't give a flying fvck about me or anyone and their reactions.

"Oh hey everyone, sorry we got a little carried away." Ashley's annoying voice tore through the air as she giggled and smiled at everyone around the table. When her eyes met mine, she clutched the fabric of the white t-shirt that Rhyan was wearing and pressed herself closer to him like she was trying to mold herself against him. Her arms around him tightened considerably as well, making me wonder how the guy wasn't already choking to death.

Wait a damn minute.

I couldn't help the taunting smile that crept up my face when I saw through her act. She was staking her claim on Rhyan in front of everyone and most importantly me, because she felt threatened by me.

The whole act was absolutely hilarious to me. She was pissing hard all over him trying to show me that he was hers, for what? Just because he drove me home once? Not only did me and Rhyan barely knew each other, but also I'm certain it's gonna take a long while for us to even get along like normal human beings with that god-forsaken attitude of his.

Anyways, it turned out that I wasn't the only one who had noticed her desperate act.

Amber made a gagging sound as she pinched her nose, "Sorry guys, I know I'd said that I'd hang out for a while but I think I'm going to head to class now. The stench of desperation coming from Ashley is seriously making me want to throw up."

I burst out laughing and the boys around the table snickered and Victoria tried to hide her smile.

"Who the hell are you calling desperate?" Ashley snapped as I noticed that a few people around us had starting to whisper among themselves and turn their heads towards our table to listen to the drama.

I swear people had nothing better to do.

"You that's who. Could you stop trying to climb Rhyan in public when he isn't even your boyfriend? Gosh, the poor guy looks uncomfortable as hell."
