Rose
I nodded and smiled along as I glanced around our table that had erupted in laughter at Amber's joke, without even realising that I didn't particularly understand it.
As I took a look around the canteen, I vaguely registered that everything looked kinda different? Like the colours had faded to some extent. I tilted my head upwards and realised that it was a gloomy day. The sun was hiding behind the clouds as if it were not interested to shine today, just like the birds weren't bothered to chirp.
I turned my attention back to my friends and tried to listen to the conversation when I heard a voice whisper my name.
"Rose.."
At first, I thought it was Evan who had called me, but he looked busy teasing Amber.
"Rose!"
I snapped my head up as I realised it wasn't one of my friends who was calling me.
My eyes scanned the surroundings, but everyone was minding their own business. My brows furrowed in confusion as I couldn't figure out who seemed to be trying to get my attention.
The crunching of gravel indicating that someone was approaching us from behind felt unusually loud to my ears as my body involuntarily got up from my seat to face the person approaching me.
I rubbed my arm, feeling uneasiness creep into my skin as I squinted my eyes at the hooded figure before me, unable to figure out who it was, even though it was bright enough outside.
"Hello?" I questioned, unable to identify the voice or the person.
My hand flew up to my mouth in a quiet gasp as the person's pale face became clear and they stood right before me.
"No," I whispered, refusing to believe this was happening as Oliver's hazel eyes stared mockingly down at me.
I wasn't ready to face him again or the mountain of emotions I had ran away from.
"Thought you could get rid of me so easily, baby?" He tilted his head sideways as he looked me up and down.
"N-no. Sta-ay away from me." I stuttered, trying to take a step back as Oliver took one forward.
"Now why would you say that?" Oliver tsked like I was a child who had said something stupid, and he was disappointed in me.
"You were the one who asked me to come here."
"Wha- I never said that!"
"C'mon, look at you, you're absolutely miserable without me. You miss me so much. I can see it in your eyes." Oliver tried to reach out to me, but I pushed his hand away which made him laugh.
This was always what he'd do to me. Play with my head and make me question everything.
"No. no. no. no!" I shook my head furiously as the sound of his laughter grew louder.
Once Oliver's laughter calmed down, I noticed that he had a crazed look in his eyes that I had never seen before.
Something didn't feel right.
