Rose
I narrowed my eyes and folded my arms on my chest, causing Rhyan to smirk smugly as he made his way towards me. I silently cursed as my heart did an annoying flip inside my chest at the scene.
Did he come here for me?
I looked past him and noticed that he had his car parked haphazardly in the middle of our driveway. Why was he in a hurry?
"Rose." His voice demanded my attention.
When my eyes flickered back to him, he was standing right in front of me.
I narrowed my eyes as I crossed my arms across my chest and shot back, "Why are you here?"
"Am I not allowed to be here?" Rhyan retorted back playfully, his stormy blue eyes alight with mischief as they studied me.
Of course, he's finding this funny. The nerve!
"Stop replying to my question with another question." I rolled my eyes.
"You know what? You don't have to tell me." I muttered, breaking eye contact.
"Why not?"
"Because!" I began, glancing in his direction before quickly looking away.
"I just- don't want to know," I replied, absently tucking my hair behind my right ear.
Seeing him like this all playful and light was going to turn my insides into mush and make me forget how mad I was just a while ago.
Where was the arctic-cold Rhyan and what had happened to him?
"Okay then." Rhyan retorted with a shrug. And as you guessed, that got on my nerves.
"Okay? That's what you've got to say??" I unfolded my arms and raised my eyebrows, perplexed.
"Well, you did say you didn't want to know-"
I blinked. Was this guy for real?
"That's not the point!" I snapped, glaring at him.
The wicked smirk that appeared on Rhyan's face made me want to throttle him or something.
"You should just quit bothering me and go back to whom-whatever you were so busy with!" I could almost taste the tickle of hurt behind my throat when I uttered those words.
I didn't want to see his face or hear anything that he had to say.
I had halfway turned away from him, ready to walk away and make a dramatic exit, when I felt the feathery touch of his fingers as they curled around my arm, stopping me.
Rhyan stooped lower so that his mouth aligned with my right ear, "Whomever I was busy with? Isn't that weirdly specific?" Rhyan's calm voice only infuriated me.
"Let. Go." I said angrily, and he did.
I instantly wished he hadn't.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME???
I was about to smack some sense into myself when Rhyan spoke up, "I'm sorry for making you wait, Rose. Something urgent had come up. By the time I was done with it and ran back to the library, you had already left."
Wha-? Rhyan is apologising??
I blinked and looked back at him. I could not believe what I had just heard. I did not know what to do or say. That was not what I was expecting from Mr. ISpeakOnly3Words but here we were.
Just as I opened my mouth to tell him that it was okay, the conversation that I had overheard between the two girls at the library echoed in my ears.
They said that he was with Ashley.
