The Young Avengers: Not Kids Anymore [2]

-The night things changed-

Emma, Miles, Peter, and Cindy were out on patrol like usual. Things were pretty quiet, which was odd but its wasn't uncommon.

The group met up on the roof nearby Midtown High. The four of them were sitting on the roof. As they were just hanging out there for any word of any criminal activity, Emma glanced to see Cindy and Miles sitting awfully close.

Peter glanced at Emma, "What?"

Emma glanced at him, "Nothing." She has a small smile on her face, "Just thinking."

Peter sits down on the edge, "About?"

Emma laughs lightly, "I have a whole list." She had a smile on her lips.

She brushed her hair behind her ears, despite her mask still being over her face, Peter saw the scar on her forehead from the accident with the Green Goblin.

A frown escaped Peter's lips. Remembering the worry he held for Emma's well-being. Emma didn't seem to notice Peter's frown, instead she was looking forward.

"Tomorrow," Emma starts, "After school, Tony and Pepper are taking me to the court to become legally their daughter."

Peter looks at Emma, "Really?"

Emma nods, "Yeah," She smiles softly, "My mom signed off on all the stuff and well- my dad kind of lost those rights."

Peter nods.

Emma shrugs her shoulders, "For whatever reason it doesn't feel so weird, Peter." She looks at the sky, "I mean sure, I've only known them for what- less than a year and I think of them as parents."

Peter shrugs, "Maybe it was meant to be."

Emma smiles softly, "In a strange way, I can agree with that."

"Guys,"  It was Ned's voice through the earpiece, "We got some activity at the warehouse district at 5th."

Emma stands up, "Okay. We're on it."

All four of them put their masks back on, then all headed off in that direction. Peter, Miles, and Cindy all swung from building to building with their web launchers, however Emma flew over.

Upon arriving to the warehouse, the group saw no one in the building that Ned said had the activity. But that didn't mean someone was hiding.

Emma glanced at the three, "Stay alert."

Miles and Cindy nods.

Peter was next to Emma whereas Cindy and Miles were by each other. They were slowly centering the middle of the room.

"Something about this doesn't feel right," Peter said.

Just then someone jumped down from the catwalk above. The landing sent a slight shock wave, as the heroes braced themselves.
