Chapter 6. 3 Years Later

3 years. 3 years of happiness.  3 years without having to worry about someone trying to kill you. 3 years of a bed. 3 years of not starving. 3 years with a roof over our heads. 3 whole years.

But good things never last, do they.

Right now I'm in my room reading a book while Abbey Road plays in the background. Sawyer and Juliet are still asleep. Right now I'm wearing a pair of overalls because its the closest thing I can get to pants in 1977.

I see Sawyer run past my door. 

"Hey, where the hell are you going?"

I chase him out the front door.

"I don't have time to argue with you to get you to stay so get in"

I smile and I get in the passenger side of the jeep.

He starts to drive, "So Hayley, hows the plan going"

"Well, James, the plan is going great, Ben thinks we're friends, he told me about his plan with the hostiles, looks like we are going to live him wiping out all of Dharma"

We make it to wherever we are going. Sawyer stops the car in the middle of the field and we both get out of the car. We see a van pull up.

Never in a million years did I think I'd see these faces again.

Hurley, Jack, and Kate get out of the van.

Jin must have found them.

Locke did it, he brought them back.

Hurley drops his guitar case and he walks over to us, "You guys are alive! I can't believe it!"

Hurley pulls me into a giant hug. 

It feels good to have my friend back.

"Oh my god, Hayley, you look so grown up," Hurley says

"Well it has been three years," I say

"So how old are you now?" Jack asks

"17, gonna be 18 in a few months"

"They do grow up fast don't they," Sawyer says 

I also give Jack and Kate a hug.

"Locke did it, he brought you guys back," I say

"Where is he?" Sawyer asks

"John's dead," Jack says

"Dead? How?" I say

"It doesn't matter. He's gone."

"So what's up with you guys in the old Dharma jumpsuits?" Hurley asks

"You didn't tell 'em?" Sawyer says to Jin

"No. I was waiting for you."

"Tell us what?" Kate says

"We're in the Dharma Initiative," Sawyer says 

"They came back to the island?" Jack says

"No, we came back and so did you, it's 1977," I say

"Oh, what?" Hurley says 

Sawyer is talking to Jack and Kate about how we got to 1977.

We need a plan and how to say they got here.

Jin leaves to find if a plane landed here because Sun was on that plane as well.

"We say they're recruits,"  I say

"What?" Sawyer says

"We get a new batch of recruits today, say that they were on the sub, put their names on the list, they get to live here with us."

Sawyer and I go back to the house to bring clothes for them.

Juliet leaves to put their names on the list. Sawyer and I leave to get Hurley, Jack, and Kate. 

Everyone changes and gets in the van. I sit shotgun, Sawyer drives, and Hurley, Jack, and Kate sit in the back.

"Okay, so it's 1977," Hurley says

"Yep," I say

"And you guys are all members of the Dharma Initiative?" Hurley says

"Right again," Sawyer says

"What have you been doing, Hayley?" Jack asks

"I went to school for a while."

"A while?" 

"Shorty here was ahead of everyone in her class, so they let her finish early," Sawyer says

He's been bragging about it like it was him who finished early.

The Hurley interrupts by saying, "You do realize those dudes got wiped out right?" 

"Don't worry Hurley, we have a plan" I say

We get back to the barracks before we get out of the van I say, "Oh yeah, one other thing, if anyone asks Sawyer is my dad and our last name is LaFleur."

"What?" Hurley says but we are already out of the van.

Sawyer explains everything they have to do.

Hurley asks, "What if they ask questions we can't answer? like "Who's the President in 1977?"

"They won't but if they do its Jimmy Carter and the only important thing to know about 1977 is that Star Wars and New Hope is in theaters," I say

"I'll be in there to get your backs. Let's move." Sawyer says

Miles pulls up in a van with Jin on the walkie.

Jin says that Sayid was captured and they have mistaken him for a hostile.

This is too much for one day so I decide to go back to our house and read my book

Someone knocks on our door and I open it.

"What?"

"So that's how you answer the door," Jack says

"You disturbed my reading"

"Wheres Sawyer?" 

"Reading, he made me answer the door"

I glare over at him.

Juliet comes out of the bedroom and asks, "Hayley, who was at the door?" 

"Jack"

Juliet and Jack hug and Juliet invites him in.

"Evening, Doc," Sawyer says

"I'm sure you two have a lot to talk about," Juliet says and she leaves the room, I follow her.
