I know, I'm a day late, but usually I'm two days late when I comes to birthdays, so I already improved a little...

Lazily you rubbed your eyes, dangled your feet over the back of the sofa you were lying on and turned your head to look over at your best friend Ryan. His eyes ran over the lines of the book in his lap, his hair fell into his forehead. Sometimes you wondered if he knew how beautiful he was, how angel like his appearance was to you, especially in the soft light of the afternoon sun that fell in through the big living room window. One day he would be the death of you, you were sure. Your heart started beating so fast every time you saw him and hit felt like he took your breath away with every smile he shot you. Not that you minded, but you would definitely never let him know that. No, never.

"You still haven't told me what you want for your birthday," you whined, watching how Ryan looked up at you, big brown eyes widening in surprise at your voice.

"I really don't need anything," he answered with a little smile.

"Birthdays are not about what you need, but about what you want, what you wish for," you replied, watching him brush a lock of his soft hair out of his eyes.

"I don't want anything, I'm happy," he told you, but it sounded a bit like a lie.

"Oh come on, anything. Some new ring, a day at the fun park, a new leash for Dottie..."

Ryan just blinked at you.

"There has to be something that you wish for!"

"Well, there is something..." Ryan hesitated to finally answer.

"Great, what is it," you asked and sat up curiously.

"It's something only you can give me," he said, but his voice was quiet, as if he did not really want to tell you.

"Okay, like what," you continued asking, not understanding what he was talking about.

"Something personal," he went on, but you were still clueless.

"Like a self-made necklace or something," you wondered.

It had been ages since you had crafted something, and you wondered how he had had the idea to ask you for something like this.

"Yeah, kinda," Ryan answered, but he sounded tired and sort of disappointed.

"A necklace?"

"God, I don't know, he said 'something personal'," you explained to Brendon.

It was Tuesday afternoon, you still had no present for Ryan and his birthday was at Thursday. You had not started making anything because you were pretty sure Ryan had not meant a necklace when you had pressed him about his birthday wish.

"Maybe he also meant like going on a camping trip together or something? We haven't been spending that much time together lately," you added, stirring your tea mindlessly.

"Are you sure he said 'something personal'," Brendon asked and took a sip of his coffee.

You shrugged and watched the elderly waitress pass by your table before you answered.

"When I asked him what he wished for, he said 'something only I can give him' that is 'something personal', so I assumed he meant something that I made myself," you explained, looking up at Brendon.

He was staring at you, his brows drawn together.

"I don't think he was talking about something handcrafted," he answered slowly, watching you carefully as you looked at him confused.
