Madelaine's POV
Cami and I had got up extra early so we could go shopping. Lili had stayed at the house with Vanessa to keep her calm, since last night had really upsetted her. We had just bought the dress and flowers and were driving back to the house.
"You okay?" Cami asked, as she drove the car. I nodded, looking out the window. I really wasn't though. I had begun to accept the idea that Vanessa probably liked me and I was extremely happy about that, but I had just messed up everything. And now she probably thought I was some confused straight girl that only wanted attention.
But, that wasn't true at all.
"I'm just nervous that she's gonna think this is all a big joke Cami," I said. She stayed quiet for a moment, her hand slowly moving the steering wheel.
"You really shouldn't worry Mads. I know how Vanessa is. She may be mad now..but when she sees you in that dress..holding those flowers and then finally telling her how you feel..she's gonna be the happiest girl in the world," she smiled.
Vanessa's POV
I sat on the couch with Lili watching a football game as the guys played soccer outside. I sipped on my tea, as I shifted against the pillow next to me.
"So..are you good now?" Lili asked.
I lied, nodding. Lili didn't exactly know about the situation between Mads and I and I didn't feel like really explaining it to her right now. I wanted to feel bad about my outburst from last night..but I honestly didn't. I had every right to be frustrated. I was pretty much in love with a girl that was pretty much straight. A girl that pretty much had a boyfriend. A girl that pretty much would never love me back. But, she didn't seem to care that she was messing with me.
Because here she was..trying to kiss me. Trying to play with my heart. And I was officially done with it. Because I wasn't a toy.
"I'm..gonna go sit outside," I said standing up.
"Do you want me to sit with you?" Lili asked.
"No it's okay. I kinda wanna be alone right now..if you don't mind," I said. Lili smiled and nodded.
I headed outside and sat on the patio, immediately feeling a cool breeze sweep across my face. I sighed as I watched the sun glow down on my face while listening to birds chirp. This moment was perfect. Except it was missing one thing. Specifically one person.
I'm pretty sure you know who I'm talking about by now.
But I heard the door open behind me and close, interrupting my train of thought. I assumed it was Lili so I didn't turn around. The person sat down next to me quietly, not saying anything. But, then I heard her voice.
"Pretty isn't it?" she said. I turned to see Mads staring off into space, looking at the clouds. She seemed tired but calm. I nodded and sighed, turning my attention back to the view. We stayed quiet for a moment before Mads took out her phone and began texting someone. She finally put her phone away slowly and then smiled at me. But, I didn't smile back.
"What do you want?" I asked, quietly. She looked disappointed because of my harsh tone.
"I..I wanted to see how you were doing," she said looking at the ground.
I laughed, shaking my head. "That's surprising. Since when did you care about how I feel?" I said, turning to her with hurt eyes.
"Vanessa..please. I don't want to argue. I care a lot about you. Like a lot. And I know what you're feeling right now. And I know exactly why you're upset. But-" her phone began to buzz in her hand and I looked to see who the call was from.
Fucking Travis of course.
"I don't care what you have to say anymore. I'm done," I said standing up. But, before I could go she grabbed my wrist.
"It's really not what it looks like Nessa. Please don't go," her voice began to almost shake as I saw her eyes begin to water. But, I pulled my hand away. Resisting any temptation to hold on. And I walked away.
Madelaine's POV
I answered the call from Travis, too upset to speak. I fought back the tears as Travis began to talk.
"So uh..I got your text," he said.
"Yeah..." I said quietly.
"I completely respect your opinion about us wanting to be friends. It's just..I'm really sorry if I ever forced 'whatever we had' between us. I never wanted to make you uncomfortable if I did."
I smiled through the pain at what he had said. "No it's really fine Travis. You didn't do anything wrong. It's just..I'm trying to figure out things with how I feel about people and I didn't want to hurt or confuse you through that process."
"Yeah..I get it. And if you ever need any help..from a friend..I'm always here," he said. And as much as I knew he was trying to sound happy, I could hear in his voice that he was upset.
"Thank you so much Travis. Like seriously, thank you for understanding. And I'm here for you too."
"Thanks..I..uh gotta go. I'll talk to you later," he said.
"Oh..okay bye," I responded. He quickly hung up and I put my phone in my pocket. And that's when I felt the giant weight being lifted off of my chest. I knew who I really wanted now.
Vanessa. Only Vanessa.
