Breaking The Rules

I brought your keys...

After finishing unpacking,I change clothes and leave for George's firm. When I arrive, I go to his office,but he isn't there. As I turn to leave, I see Harvey going into his office

"Harvey!" I call him as I go toward him. When he sees me he smiles and waits for me

"Alex! What a nice surprise!" He says and we hug

"Nice to see u too!" I reply smiling back

"How are u? U're not in trouble,right?"

"No no! I'm, u know...surviving!"

"And why is that?"

"A lot has happened... nothing that can't be fixed,though!"

"Ok then...what are u doing here,anyway? I thought I'd never see u again!"

"Don't be silly,u can see me whenever u want! Just call!"

"I know, I'm just teasing u...so, what brings u here?"

"I actually came to give George something, but he's not here...Do u know where he is or if he's coming back any time soon? I thought he'd be done with his trial by now... "

"I don't know, but u can give it to me if u're in a hurry!"

"Sure! give him these..." I tell him getting George's keys out of my bag and then I give them to Harvey

"Keys?" He asks confused with a raised eyebrow

"Yes, don't get any ideas, I was taking care of his cat while he was absent and I forgot to give them to him when he came back last night..."

"I see...ok then, I'll give them to him...Want me to say anything to him as well?"

"No, I'll call him anyway to tell him about u having his keys...thanks though!"

"Don't mention it! Wanna go grab a drink or something some time?"

"I'm sorry,Harvey, I'm not in dating mood..."

"Alex...just a drink..."

"I'll have to pass...u're a nice guy and I don't wanna lie to u or get your hopes up...It's still a no..."

"Alright, I won't push u...if u change your mind though,I'm here..."

"I won't...bye,Harvey..." I reply smiling weakly and I leave. I get in the elevator and press the 0 to go down. Few floors down, the doors open and a couple of people get in. The last one to get in is George with an angry face, but when he sees me his face lightens up

"Alex? What are u doing here? Missed me?" He asks smiling when he comes close

"Haha,I could have,but no, I came to give u your keys,but I gave them to Harvey when I saw u weren't in your office..."

"Oh,u shouldn't have made all this way just to give me my keys, u could bring them to me when u'd come to visit Tiff!"

"Well,I wouldn't be feeling comfortable having someone else's house keys..."

"I wouldn't mind,but ok..." He replies smiling and then we stay silent. The people leave the elevator couple of floors later and we stay alone

"So, how were the pancakes..." He asks like a kid who has done something good for u and waits for u to notice

"Unnecessary,but delicious..."I reply smiling

"I'm glad...did u sleep well?"

"Yes! Better than I have in weeks,actually..."

"Good..." He replies smirking

"Don't smile!" I scold him trying to hide my smile

"U're smiling too!!"

"What if I am?" I ask turning my head to look at him, shrugging my shoulders

"Nothing, I just think it's unfair to tell me not to smile while u stand there smiling..." he says playing offended

"Boo hoo,sorry your feelings got hurt,princess..." I say sarcastically and turn to look forward again

"Don't u ever give up?"

"Nope! It's one of my many talents!"

"U have many?"

"U have no idea!"

"Oh, I think I do..." He replies looking at me with a naughty smile

"Oh,u mean last night? That was just a teaser..."

"I'd love to see more, then..."

"Nuh-uh...keep it in your pants, it's not happening again!"

"And why is that?" He asks as we reach the last floor and the doors open

"Because,u're not made for that and I'm not gonna break another man's heart..." I reply as I get out and he follows me

"Oh, come on, I'm not a child...I know what I want..."

"Yes,u do, and what u want is to change me...u say u're ok with us just fucking, but deep inside u hope that U'll change me..." I say as I stop walking and turn to look at him

"Let's be honest,ok? I just want u to give me a chance; a chance to show u that we're not all such pigs and that I can make u happy..."

"U got it all wrong, my friend...my happiness doesn't depend on a man. The fact that I'm not happy is because I have unresolved issues and insecurities. But, since I mentioned it,my therapist told me to try something,so I have to try it: are u free tomorrow or any other day?"

"Uhm, I work tomorrow, but I get off at 17.00..."

"No! I want u to have the whole day to yourself..."

"On he weekend, then...Saturday?"

"Ok, I'll text u the details..."

"Wait, is it a date?" He asks confused

"No, it's more complicated than that...I'll explain it to u!"

"Ok, but why can't I make a plan?"

"Because I want to make sure everything will be ok..."

"Trust me it will..."

"George, it's already hard for me, don't make it worse..."

"I'm just saying that sometimes it's ok to let someone take control..."

"I did that and it didn't turn out well! Are u in or out?"

"I guess I'm in, even though I'm really confused..."

"I'll explain it to u, don't worry! So, I'll text u the schedule..."

"Ok..."

"Have a nice day...and don't forget your keys!" I tell him and stop a taxi

"Have a nice day too, and thanks for the chance..." He replies opening the door for me

"It's not a date!" I say as I get in and then I close the door...
