DON'T PLAY THE SONG YET—

YASMINES P.O.V—

I woke up early by the sound of the letter box.
I swung my legs of the bed and dragged my feet downstairs.

There was a pile of mail by the door and I picked all of them up, putting them on the coffee table.
I sat down on the couch and started looking through them.

All of the letters were tickets addressed to my Dad and I know that's a bad thing but it was a good thing really because I knew my Dad was still alive since he was getting tickets.
One of the letters were from my social worker.
Shit!

I quickly opened the letter and I scanned through it.

Dear Yasmine Cortez,
I would like to schedule a visit since you haven't had one for over two years now. It is compulsory that we have another meeting with you father because you're not over 18 yet and is still important to have one.
When your father is free to schedule a visit, please tell him to contact us.

Your sincerely Marie Stevens (social worker)

I put the letter back in the envelope and I took a deep breath.
How the hell can she meet my Dad even though he's not here!

If she finds out I'm living alone, she'll send me back to that girls home.

I remember when my mom died, Child support knew that nobody was taking care of me and they took me away to a girls home.
It was called Girls Combined.

Other girls got sent there after prison or others with behaviour issues, mental health issues etc.

It was hell.

FLASHBACK—

Marie my social worker knocked on the door and I carried my heavy suitcase.
The door creaked open and some random girl opened it.

She looked really pale and so skinny that I could see her ribcage. I was guessing that she
was in there for an eating disorder.

Marie got a little startled and she put on a smile to try and hide her fear.
"I'm here to speak to Mrs Evans please."

The Girl glared at her and she didn't move one bit.
"And I'm here to get out of this shit hole! I guess we can't have what we want!" She screamed at us out of nowhere and I jumped.

This other lady came from behind her and her eyes widened, I think she's Mrs Evans.
"Okay thank you Anna, I'll take it from here."

The Girl looked at me and nodded before going back inside.
"you must be Marie."
"And you must be Mrs Evans."

"Please call me Mindy." She smiled and shook Marie's hand.
Mindy held out her hand to shake mine but I turned my head away.

"And you must be Yasmine." Mindys smile faded away.
I shrugged my shoulders and Marie did a fake cough, signalling me to talk.

"Yeah I'm Yasmine." I spoke.

"Okay well I've sent her file and I'll be checking in on you Okay Yasmine?" Marie smiled and I nodded.

Mindy opened the door wider and when I went inside, there was a group of girls that were in the living room. They all stared at me and I felt kind of intimidated.

"Why aren't there any bars on the windows or locks on the doors?" I asked as I looked around the place.
"Well-"

"Because we don't have anywhere else to go so why would we even try to escape. But sometimes I'd choose prison over this dump." A girl interrupted Mindy and she rolled her eyes.
