Cigarettes At 2:00AM

YASMINES P.O.V—
2:30am—

I sat down in the back garden with my legs crossed and with a cigarette in my hand. I tapped the end of it, letting the ash fall.

"There you are." Mindy came to the door and I quickly hid away the cigarette.
"No no no it's fine, I won't tell anyone." She said and I put the cigarette back into my mouth.

"What are you doing outside in the freezing cold?"
I smiled "I'm used to it, once my Dad forgot about me and he left me outside for the entire night."

When I said that her eyes widened from shock.
"Really?! Some parents can be so cruel." Mindy shook her head.
"Yeah well I'm getting out of here tomorrow so..."

"And we'll all miss you dearly, especially me."
I scoffed "Yeah right."

Mindy gave me an offended look "Whenever any of you girls leave it's really heartbreaking for me, it's like a mother being separated from their child."
Awwww

I chuckled nervously "You know when I first came here....I thought you hated me."
"What?! I could never. I care for every single one of you, even if you've had a bad past. I did look at your file and I knew that you'd be broken."

I looked up at her.

"Your brother was killed."

Flashback-
"Zack please don't leave me." I cried and Zack held my hand.

"It's okay Yaz, you'll be okay. You have to let go sometimes baby sis."
End-

I sniffled "yeah he was." My voice cracked on the very end.

"I know you don't hear it much but I'll always be here if you feel like you're alone, it's my job to look after others but also my passion." Mindy smiled at me and I pursed my lips together.
"Thanks Mindy."

Mindy got up from the bench that we were sitting at and she looked back at me before going back inside.

"Before you leave, I wanna have a house meeting again. Be there in the morning." Mindy smiled at me before going back into the house.

I smiled back and before I went back into the house, I stood on top of the cigarette so the flame would go out.

9:45am—

When I was finished getting ready, I slipped on my favourite hoodie before going downstairs.

All the girls were already in the living room and they were all sitting down.
Mindy stopped talking and they all looked at me.

"I'm not late am I?" I said whilst sitting down.
"Not at all Yasmine." Mindy smiled.

When I was sitting Mindy looked back at everyone else "So can anyone tell me why we're all here today?"
Nobody answered.

Everyone else shrugged and I saw Ellie, the girl who had tubes attached to her, get up from her seat.
"Because we're alive." She smiled and Mindy nodded.
Deep.

"That's right Ellie, good job but we're here for another reason."
Mindy looked at me before saying it.

"Yasmine's leaving today-"
"Wait what?!" One of the girls said.
Everyone started talking at once.
