[Skylar’s POV]
It was 3:28 and Max still wasn’t here. I didn’t want to call him and seem desperate but I also wanted to call him to make sure he didn’t forget about me.
Beau had left around 2:45 and has given me over half an hour to freak out. I called Beau, “Hello?” Beau answered cheerfully.
I could hear some Vampire Weekend playing in the background; good taste.
“Beau,” I said tentatively, “if Max still hasn’t shown up, should I be worried?” I asked, my voice shaking from humiliation.
I bet I was the first girl in the history of the world to be forgotten about on a first date. “HE WHAT?” Beau roared into the phone, causing me to wince when it was a bit too close to my ears, “I’m coming over there right now, Skylar.
I’m going to teach this little shit a lesson. How could someone forget about you?” Beau was muttering to himself. Suddenly the doorbell rang.
I rushed to my window and saw Max standing on the front step. I let out a sigh of relief and said, “Beau, he’s here. I’ll talk to you later ok?” I didn’t bother to hear a response before I hung up on him.
I grabbed my jacket and did a once over of my outfit before rushing down the stairs to answer the door. “Hey, ready to go?” Max asked when I answered the door. I nodded and followed him to the car. I was currently bored out of my mind.
Max had dragged me to the movie ‘Lincoln’ and was enthralled with it. I, however, had no idea what was going on and didn’t quite understand who was who, other than the obvious character, Lincoln. When the movie was finally over, we walked out of the theater and to his car.
Max was talking non-stop about the “interesting and dramatic” movie we had just viewed.
I zoned out, not at all interested in the topic he was currently droning on about.
“Sky? Um, Sky?” I heard. I turned, “I’m sorry, I zoned out there,” I said, smiling apologetically, “What were you saying?” “Um, we’re here,” Max said, giving me a weird look.
I looked out the front windshield and saw that we were indeed in front of a pizza parlor.
I shot him a smile before clambering out of the car. We passed the time by chatting about our lives and learning more about each other.
Max was starting to grow on me.
The only thing that bothered me was that he never apologized for being late, but that thought was soon pushed from my mind when he was acting so nice and polite on this date, it kind of made up for it.
“Well, thanks again for the date,” I said, awkwardly standing on my front stoop, not really knowing what to do.
I don’t think I wanted to kiss him yet but I think not doing anything would be kind of rude so I held out my hand for a high-five, “Put it there,” I said in a joking tone.
Max high-fived me and said, “You’re not like other girls, Sky,” before turning on his heel and leaving me on my front stoop, wondering what the hell that was supposed to mean.
It was pouring rain and lightning was flashing constantly so I squinted through the storm to make sure Max got to his car.
I waved goodbye to Max and turned around to open up the front door when he drove away.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. The doorknob wouldn’t budge. What the heck? I called my mom, “Hey mom, why isn’t the door unlocked?” I asked her, still trying to turn the knob, as if it would magically open.
