[Skylar’s POV]

I ran until I got home, which was a mile and a half from town.

I know, wow, a mile and a half! But guys, I was desperately out of shape so it was a big deal that I was running for longer than ten seconds, let alone ten minutes.

I collapsed on my bed, covered in sweat.

It was too hot in my room so I went to go take a cold shower.

I was singing ‘The Bare Necessities’ from the movie The Jungle Book when I heard a cough in my bathroom.

I froze, letting the water run over my head and trying to listen to see if I had imagined the sound but when I heard someone clear their throat again I knew I wasn’t alone.

I tried to act as though I hadn’t heard them while thoughts of axe-murderers and rapists ran through my mind. I slowly slid the shower curtain open and cautiously peeked my head out to see…Sam. What the fuck.

“GET OUT!” I screamed, chucking my shampoo bottle at him. “Sorry!” Sam exclaimed, ducking the bottle and rushing out of there.

I stayed in the shower a few more minutes before walking out in just a towel.

“What is so important that you had to interrupt my shower for?” I demanded, opening my dresser drawer and rummaging through it for some clothes.

I grabbed a sweatshirt, some underwear, a sports bra, and some leggings.

I walked into my bathroom and shut the door as Sam started talking, “It’s about what happened today. Are you okay?” Sam asked.

“Of course I’m okay,” I lied through the bathroom door, hopping around as I pulled my leggings on. “Well, I don’t think you are,” Sam said sounding hesitant, “You ran home. You hate running. You walked the mile test in gym class!” Sam reminded me.

“Pssh, what are you talking about,” I said, my voice sounding muffled as I pulled my sweatshirt over my head; “I love running.” I opened my bedroom door and stepped out, walking over to my dresser and pulling out a hair binder.

“Uh huh,” Sam said, rolling his eyes. I laughed and pulled my long hair up into a ponytail, “What did you really want?” I asked Sam and jumped onto my bed next to him.

“I think you should give Beau a second chance,” Sam said. I stared at him in a shocked silence. “What?” I almost whispered, not believing my own ears.

“I said, you should give Beau a second chance,” Sam repeated. “I heard you the first time!” I exclaimed, “It’s just…why?” I asked, completely confused. “Well, I’ve noticed that you’re in a pretty bad mood the past week and I know it’s not because of Max.

I know, Max is an asshole, but when you guys were dating you’d never get as excited for those dates as you would when Beau just sent you a text. I’m serious,” he added when he saw the skeptical look I was giving him, “Beau would just send you a text and you’d light up like the Fourth of July. When Max came to pick you up, you were like a dying flashlight; trust me, guys notice things like these. I think you were only going out with him because you thought you had to,” Sam finished.

“Well, you’re wrong,” I argued even though I knew in my heart he was right.

I wasn’t admitting it though because of my pride.

“Well, I’m right,” Sam challenged with a smug tone, like he knew what I was thinking. “Well, Beau doesn’t feel the same way about me anyways,” I said in a quiet voice, not wanting to admit that Sam was right.

“Sky,” Sam said in a serious voice, causing me to look up at him, “I know you and seeing you with Beau the past few weeks made me realize how happy he makes you. And I’ve seen Beau at soccer practices since you two have been in a fight and he looks miserable. I know it has something to do with you and I’ve come to accept that. Beau and I are…acquaintances because I know that you are only happy when you’re with Beau. And I know that Beau feels the same way about you,” Sam explained, putting a hand on my shoulder.

He stood and leaned over to give me a kiss on my cheek before exiting the room while I lay there in silence while I contemplated what he just said.

What do you guys think? Should Skylar forgive Beau? ;)
