[Skylar’s POV]

I got out of the bathroom and walked back into the kitchen to find Beau sitting at the table, packing up his school stuff. “Are you done with your homework?” He asked me when I came in.

I nodded and started to pack up my notebooks.

Gina came back into the room, “Would you like to stay for dinner, dear?” She asked when she saw me packing up. I smiled at her, “I don’t want to impose,” I said politely. I thought about what I was having for dinner tonight.

My parents were going out and Sam was sleeping over at a friend’s house.

Looks like McDonalds tonight.

“I insist!” Gina said, “I’m making lasagna tonight!” Beau groaned out loud, “You’ve got to stay now Sky; her lasagna is to die for!” I smiled at the mother and son, “I’d love to”. After texting my mom that I wouldn’t be home for a while, I followed Beau to the front door so we could put our shoes on and kick the soccer ball around.

I pulled on my converse, he grabbed the soccer ball and we strolled out the door to his backyard. While we were walking around to the side of his house, I slipped going down a hill.

As I was falling I grabbed onto Beau and took him down with me.

We tumbled down the hill together, limbs flailing everywhere, before we finally stopped rolling, right into a pile of mud. “EW!” I shrieked; looking around myself to see that I was covered in muck. Beau sat next to me, laughing his head off.

I was trying to get some of the mud off my hands so I could wipe my face but I accidentally flicked some at Beau.

“I’m so sorry!” I started to apologize before Beau took a huge glob of the gunk and threw it at me, hitting me in the stomach with a thump. It winded me and I couldn’t speak so in response I threw a giant chunk at him, hitting him in the neck.

Before I knew it, we were in a full-fledged mud fight. After a few attempts to get up and run, I kept slipping and falling. Finally he just tackled me into the muck, not hurting me but pressing me deeper into the nasty dirt. “Say uncle,” Beau told me, pressing me further and further into the mud.

“Alright, uncle!” I yelled with a giggle. Beau laughed before helping me up but he slipped and we both fell back into the mud with an almighty SQUELCH! I bust out laughing, almost crying as we laid there covered in mud, “You’re an idiot!” I yelled at him, struggling to get up.

I couldn’t seem to get up though, “Beau I’m stuck!” I exclaimed. Beau’s laugh echoed out over the trees when I said that. He got up and leaned over, picking me up bridal style.

He carried me out of the mud pile and up the hill we had fallen down. I was glad mud covered my features so he couldn’t see how ridiculously red I was.

“You can put me down now, Beau,” I said quietly as we reached his driveway. He laughed before setting me down gently on my feet.

“Thanks,” I muttered, beyond flustered.

Even though this study session has made me a little more comfortable around Beau, I still was super shy and blushed at almost everything he did whether it was talking to me or…carrying me. I followed him back into his house.

When we walked into his house, I heard Gina gasp. “What happened to you two?” She exclaimed. Beau chuckled quietly, “We, um, fell,” he said, causing me to laugh at his understatement.

“Alright,” Gina said with a smile, “Beau you go get washed up in the basement and Skylar, you can use my bathroom”.

Beau trooped downstairs while I followed Gina up the stairs to her bathroom.
