[Skylar’s POV]

“C’mon Sky, it’ll be fun, I promise!” Sam said, trying to physically pull me out of my bed.

I grunted in response. “Sky, you’re miserable and everyone can see that.

You need to get out of the house and near people,” Sam said, grabbing ahold of my blankets and ripping them off of me.

I’ve been in a sullen mood since what happened on Wednesday and it is now Sunday. I haven’t left my house since Friday and could feel myself slowly going crazy.

Maybe it would be a good idea to get out of the house.

I stood up and pushed Sam out of the room, “Give me twenty minutes,” I told him and shut the door on his face. We got out of the car at Dunkin’ Donuts. It’s amazing that Sam knew that I could really use a donut right now. It’s like we were twins…oh wait.

We walked in and I instantly took a deep inhale, enjoying the sugary, unhealthy smell. After we ordered, we sat down in one of the booths to eat.

Sam sat on the same side as me and, after I gave him a weird look, explained that he had another friend coming. Now five minutes later, Beau Brooks walks in and strolls over to sit at our booth.

I stood up; trying to escape but Sam had oh-so-cleverly sat on the outside of the booth so I couldn’t get out.

Before I could even think about losing my dignity and crawling underneath the table, Beau sat down. I stared out the window, trying to look zoned out; as though I hadn’t noticed that he was there. “Sky, Sky, SKYYYYY!” Sam practically shouted in my ear, trying to get my attention.

I turned to both the boys and tried to act surprised, as though I just noticed Beau was there, “Oh! Hello!” I said brightly, sounding fake even to my own ears, “Lovely to see you both. Oh!” I gasped, taking a look at my watch,

“Would you look at the time! I’m late for my doctor’s appointment! We’re supposed to have an important chat about my menstrual cycles. If you boys will excuse me…” I blabbered, trying to stand but was pushed back down again by Sam.

“Sky, what we have to tell you is really important,” Sam said, trying to get my attention. I didn’t want to hear anything from those two.

Wait a second. It finally clicked in my head, “You two are working…together?” I gasped, almost fainting at the idea. They both cleared their throats and awkwardly looked away from each other. After an awkward silence, they both turned their attention back to me, “Don’t try to change the subject,” Sam scolded,

“Ok, look. Beau has something to tell you. It’s important ok, just listen to him,” I nodded, fully planning to ignore him but the look on Beau’s face made me want to listen. “Look, Skylar,” Beau started out, his voice sounding raspy as if he hadn’t used it in days.

Then I looked at him, I mean really looked at him, and realized that he looked like…shit. He lacked energy, he had giant bags underneath his eyes and his hair is all messed up and sticking up in multiple directions. Usually, his eyes were bright and full of life but now, they were dull and dead looking. I almost didn’t recognize Beau.

“About Max…” Beau trailed off, looking hesitant as though he were afraid he was going to say the wrong thing. “What about Max?” I asked, curious. We had just broken up a few days ago…oh my god what if he died.

My heart started pumping as I thought of the encounters with doom Max could have had.

“He…see the thing is…he’s…he’s…he’s right there!” Beau suddenly exclaimed, looking surprised.
