[Skylar’s POV]
Thank god I didn’t run into Beau for the rest of the day. I would’ve just made an even bigger fool of myself. I had also managed to avoid speaking to the rest of the student body all day.I know I was anti-social, but I thought it was better that way. I walked out to the parking lot, my eyes on my shoes the whole way to my mustang convertible to avoid eye contact with anyone.
I successfully made it to the car without being bothered and reached into my bag for the keys.
Fumbling to unlock the door, I dropped my keys onto the pavement. Cursing quietly, I bent over to retrieve the keys only to find them in the hands of someone else.
Beau Brooks.
I stared at his hands, which held my keys, to avoid looking at his face and not being able to speak. “Hello, again,” Beau said with amusement in his voice.
I risked looking at his face to find his eyes open and full of kindness. “Hi,” I said quietly, looking back down at my shoes. “I just wanted to say that your eyes are beautiful.
Have a good day,” Beau said, handing me my keys back.
He winked at me before turning and leaving me there, staring at his back as he walked away. I stood there for what felt like years before my phone buzzed with a text from my mom asking me to pick up some milk on the way home.
I jumped into my car, listening to the engine roar to life before quickly backing out of my spot and speeding out of the parking lot.
When I got home, I put the milk in the fridge and sprinted upstairs to my room. I ran into Sam in the hallway. He was looking a lot better than he had this morning.
“Hey bro, how are you feeling?” I asked him with a wide smile. He gave me a weird look but smiled back, “A lot better. Was school ok? Did anyone bother you?” He asked his eyes hardening a bit as he spoke.
Sam was very protective over me ever since…well that one night. I gave him a small smile, “Everything was fine,” I said, giving him a giant bear hug before skipping over to my room door. I turned the light on and flung my backpack onto the bed.
Then I plugged my iPod into my speakers and turned the sound up until the walls were vibrating with the song ‘Take on Me’ by a-ha. I danced around my room in complete ecstasy, twirling and giggling to myself as I sang along to the song.
When I got tired, I collapsed onto my bean bag and laid there breathless. Beau Brooks thinks my eyes are beautiful. Just thinking about that made a smile spread wide across my lips.
Today was a great day.
[Beau’s POV]
“I just wanted to say that your eyes are beautiful. Have a good day,” I told her, giving her a wink before giving Skylar her keys back and walking away.I could feel her gaze on me as I walked away and couldn’t help but smirk, knowing she was probably lost for words right now.
“Give it about a week boys,” I announced as I neared the boys, “She’ll be in my pocket in about a week, give or take”.
“What did you say to her?” Jai asked, sneaking small glances at Skylar who was getting into her car. “I told her she had beautiful eyes,” I said shrugging, “Girls like that shit,” I added before turning to watch her small figure clamber into the convertible.
I can’t say I had been lying. She did have really pretty eyes…when they weren’t glued to the ground 24/7. I wonder why she isn’t popular, I thought to myself.
She was actually pretty good looking and had a nice body.
Her brother was popular, so why wasn’t she? I was snapped out of my thoughts when Daniel said something about killing the visiting team at the next football game.
Skylar had left the other boy’s minds but she hadn’t quite left mine.
