[Skylar’s POV]

I woke up on Wednesday morning to a text. Yes, I know oooh! A text! But this was kind of a big deal for me because people outside of my family rarely texted me.

Daniel: Eat lunch with us today? We miss you :)

Me: Sure I’ll see you there.

I guess I wasn’t eating lunch in the art room today.

[Beau’s POV]

Twelve days. That’s how long this has been going on. Twelve days.

Two more days and it will have been two weeks since I went over to Skylar’s house and kissed her the second time; since I messed everything up.

I should’ve never done anything! She was seeing someone, even if he was an ass, and I was her best friend. I should have just stayed quiet and kept going with the flow.

I would’ve been miserable watching her with Max all the time but still, I would’ve been happy if she was happy and she would’ve still kept talking to me.

I sat down at the lunch table and the boy’s conversation instantly ceased. I knew they were talking about me. “Beau, do you know what day it is today?” Luke asked me with a mischievous glint in his eyes.

“What?” I asked him in a bitter tone, not caring about what he had to say unless it had something to do with Skylar. “Today is the end of our dare. I won!” Luke said proudly. “What dare?” A voice asked from behind me.

I turned and saw Skylar standing there, holding her lunch pouch and looking at me for the first time in twelve days. ‘Twelve days,’ my voice echoed in my brain. Shut up, I told myself. “Nothing, Skylar,” I said quietly, hoping she would drop it but I knew she wouldn’t because she was stubborn like that.

“Nothing?” Luke said from behind me and I turned towards him, begging for him to be quiet but he continued on, oblivious to my message, “Beau here bet that he could get you to sleep with him in a month and a half,” Luke said, opening his mouth again to continue but stopped when he saw Skylar’s expression.

She looked shocked and just kept nodding, staring off into space as though she couldn’t comprehend what she had just been told.

Then she stopped nodding and her expression changed to complete devastation and it crushed me to see her like this; to know that I was the cause of her pain. She quickly turned on her heel and marched away from our table.

I stood up as if in a trance and bolted after her. “Skylar, wait,” I said, grabbing her arm before she could get away from me.

She turned around and I saw tears streaming down her face.

I felt my heart shatter into billions of pieces when it finally hit me; I was a monster. “What do you want Beau?” she nearly screamed at me, “What more do you want from me?” She asked, softer, her shoulders shaking and sobs escaping from her lips.

“I just wanted to say that, I’m sorry,” I said, wincing at how that sounded coming out of my mouth.

I really suck at saying the right things.

“You’re sorry?” Skylar sniffed, wiping her eyes and nose,

“You’re sorry that you lied to me? That you made me feel like I had a friend? You’re sorry that you made me fall in love with you? Well, you know what Beau? I’m sorry too,” she said angrily before racing across the schoolyard, tears slipping down her face.

I stood there in silence, staring after her in shock. She wasn’t supposed to leave. That’s not how it worked in Hollywood; because I loved her too.
