As Mia and I waited at the bunker for Joaquin, we sat in front of the television watching DVDs of Mariposa favorite corny movie, "Spaceballs." Hey, the Queen of death loves corny movies, which only time you'll catch her hearty laugh while holding her stomach at her favorite scene. Just before the scene would start she always taps on any one leg to say, "Check this out it's soooo Funny."
No matter how many times she saw that movie it made her laugh like it was the first time she ever has seen it and knew every line. As the scene was about to play I wanted for the tap in my leg but it was never coming I look over to my right to see Mia, as she does the same. She looks down to her leg patiently waiting for her mother's hand but then she realizes nothing came she look up to the television with sadness to her eyes then leans over to my shoulder as I wrap my arm around her. Knowing we both miss her already, saying silent prayers for her return. "What's matter Colonel Sanders, Chicken?" We both say as we let go of a small smile as we watch the scene unfold with as Dark Helmet crashes his body into the ship this would be the point where mi Mariposa would of lean over and burst out laughing and everyone would stare.
But we just let go of a small smile, sometimes she would tell me I remind her of Lone Star because of light hair and I always would get after her on our mini gateways, she always overly pack. I always had carried them even if we had people for that but it was my duty as gentleman and her man feeling proud to hold her purse or bags. Now the little things I did for her is filling me up, the anger I had with her being with Perez was starting to fade. Joaquin became quiet and distant but Mia never stops hugging him. Nothing would make him talk; well nothing made us even want to. It was a waiting game and to know their mother is missing is completely different then her going away for business for long periods of time. Because no matter how long she was gone, we just knew she was coming back. But the unknowing keep us on edge trying not to lose the little hope we had.
We stayed in that bunker for couple nights until Perez came in saying the coast is clear. Perez came in with dark circles under her eyes, I know if we felt bad he most of felt worse. With that moment I realize we share the love for the same woman, but the difference was I had something he didn't. She might have fucked him but it was me and the kids that had her like no another. Her love and affection well he got nothing but used so for that moment I pity him but the anger I had towards him was gone. There were no words to express to him; he stood there before me with Mia underneath me as she laid her head in my chest with massive Joaquin standing next to me.
I knew at the moment I had everyone while he had no one that hurt my heart. No one really knew who Mariposa heart belongs too but I had my children proof of our love. Mia was not my blood, but in my heart she was, no one can take that away even if Alek came storming through the door.
"Okay, this what going to happened there's a mole in security personnel we need to continue our lives like nothing is wrong. Trust no one. Everything, as to be code, post on social networks like nothing, is bothering you. ..." that's when Mia ran up to Perez, "YOU WERE SUPPOSE TO PROTECT HER!" And slap him. He turns and looks back at her and Joaquin move forward thinking Perez was going to hurt her. He got closer to her as I took steps forward to protect for whatever was going to come.
He grabs her face with both hands with no force, "Mia, I will find her into my last breath. She will return her home even if that's the last thing I do. I promise you." He spoke in a gentle voice, a voice no one has ever heard before, he rarely socializes with children, grew only to train them. Nothing more or less but this was a Perez. He was broken and only saw a little girl that is heartbroken. No one ever seen Mia emotional, she not once has she shown drastic emotions. Joaquin grabs her as he holds her as she's shake in emotions, "I need her back, I'm so sorry for not loving her as much. I'll take it all back to have her again, I'll laugh at her corny jokes, and I'll let her into my broken soul."
He squeezes her into his chest as he moved his arms up and down on her back, "I know I know," was all he said as she finally calms down.
One fucking year has come and gone, my mind is still haunted by the memory of Mia breaking down. It wasn't something she's done since then and we didn't celebrate any holidays without their mother. Joaquin went back to his playboy ways but the pictures of his smile didn't look quite the same but he was trying his best. He rarely came home, Mia went on to attend private high school here in Cancún is going to graduate soon, and wants to attend MIT as it did. I decide to get involved with the technology system with Joseph replacing all old systems with something newer and more crypt.
For the first time, I felt more involved but no one was here to tell me another wise Perez has been gone over little over a year tracking her down while I've trying to find ways to track down the last Gps and her necklace. That's how we knew she was an American. I've been lost without her, all of us have been. We never realize how much she needed her even when she was away at times
