"WAKE UP"
Luna jolted awake from her desk with a sticky note stuck on her face at the thunderous words.
"Are you slacking off at work?!" Luna's boss shouted angrily at her.
"No Sir! I was just looking something under the desk" she said trying to get out of another strike because if she gets another one, she'll be fired from her beloved work as a police detective.
Being a police detective was a dangerous job but she wanted to catch all the bad guys and serve them justice. Her dad was a police detective too. He was the primary reason for her to have that job even though he was killed working on a case. She wanted to revenge him.
Unfortunately she couldn't focus only on the revenge. Her boss was the worse. He was always nagging his coworkers to work 24/7 even though he rarely showed up at work. He was the police CEO after all.
"You were 'looking something under the desk' while drooling and taping papers on your face?" her boss remarked.
She widened her eyes, took off the sticky note from her forehead and wiped her mouth with her sleeve.
"Oh come on boss. She's working really hard. She even stayed late last night so she could work on this robbery case." Elijah, Luna's coworker and her lifetime friend, defended her as he wrapped a hand around her shoulder.
"I'm going to let this one slip. Don't let it happen again" her boss left with just a warning.
She has had it with his rudeness. He always just picks on her, he always just bothers her. When someone else does something they shouldn't do, he ignores them, doesn't say anything. But even if she's a second late to work she gets yelled at.
"Don't let this happen again" Luna mocked her boss thinking he can't hear her.
"What was that?" he turned around, cocking an eyebrow.
"Nothing" both Luna and Elijah said at the same time, smiling innocently.
As their boss left for good this time, Luna turned to Elijah.
"Thanks so much El. That was close" she said.
"If you're thankful, buy me food" he demanded.
He really likes food. When he was in high school he was bullied pretty often because of his weight but then Luna showed up and she gave him courage to stand up for himself and to get fit. Because of her he became happier. Now, he looks like a model.
"Okay, okay. After work, I'll do that" she chuckled.
"Yayy!" he shouted hugging her.
He almost toppled the chair Luna's sitting in from the force of the hug but luckily the desk was behind her to save them from the fall.
"Calm down" she said, chuckling.
"So, what were you really doing last night?" Elijah wondered and sat on the desk next to her.
"Nothing. I slept" she answered nonchalant crossing her legs.
"Oh, really?" he asked sarcastically.
"Yes, really." she insisted, nodding.
"You were watching Korean dramas, weren't you?" he guessed.
She got into Korean dramas a couple of years ago. She ended her two year relationship and instead of going down the drugs or alcohol spiral of addiction she found addiction in these kinds of dramas.
She turned around facing the desk and bit her lip "What? Nooo. I wasn't"
"Suuuure you weren't" he said getting up and going towards his desk, opposite of Luna's.
He knows her like the back of his hand. Every time she lied she couldn't look people in the eyes. She would bite her lip and look anywhere but their eyes.
"Any news about the robbery?" Matthew, the team captain asked standing in front of them.
"Unfortunately, no. I couldn't find anything on the CCTV. The robber must've known the blind spots." Luna answered turning to him.
"I actually found something" Elijah pipes in "I was looking at the dash cams of the cars there. You said that the robbery happened between 5 pm and 7 pm, right?" Elijah asked opening the file of dash cams on his computer.
"Yes" Luna said standing next to him as Matthew followed her.
"As you can see here clearly, the robber forgot about the dash cams and you can see him taking off his mask at the back of the bank" he said pointing to the robber on the screen.
"Great work. We'll just need to run the face scanner and find out who this is" Matthew said.
"Good job El." Luna tapped him on the back and went to her desk to dig deeper into this case.
