"Hey, have you heard from Luna anything?" Lucas asked Elijah, looking at Luna's empty desk.
"No. Have you?" Elijah asked worriedly.
"Well, I'm asking you, what do you think?" Lucas said sarcastically.
Elijah rolled his eyes "She said that she needed some time to think yesterday, maybe she took a day off"
Lucas kept looking at her desk and regretting what he did yesterday. He kept thinking how it was his fault for her not coming here today.
"What's up my fellow dudes?" Matthew came up to Lucas and Elijah and put a hand around Lucas' shoulder.
Lucas swatted off his arm and turned to him "Do you know where Luna is?"
"Yeah, she sent me a text that she's sick. She said that she'll take a couple of days off work" Matthew answered.
"What? She never told me this" Elijah started suspecting something.
"She doesn't need to tell you everything. You're not her diary." Lucas smirked and felt happier at that information. He felt like a teenager.
"Oh, and she told me to not visit her because she has some really infectious virus" Matthew added.
"She was fine yesterday" Elijah sighed.
Lucas remembered the kiss and touched his mouth "Does that mean..."
"What?" Elijah asked, looking at his gesture suspiciously.
"Nothing" he snapped out of his trans.
Elijah rolled his eyes again and went back to his work.
As time passed by, his hand itched to send Luna a text but he didn't want to bother her.
Finally, after a couple of hours of debating, he decided to send her a text.
Hey, how are you feeling? Any better?
He got a reply instantly.
No, I'm coughing my lungs out.
Do I need to come and help you?
No, no. It's okay.
Are you sure? You don't sound good.
I don't want you to get infected too.
Okay. Call me or text me if anything happens.
Okay.
He started suspecting her. She always wrote with emojis and exclamation points but because she was sick, he dropped her suspicion. He thought she was too tired to write back normally.
"Hey, did you finish the sexual assault case?" Lucas asked Elijah.
"No, I need to talk with the victim first" he answered back.
"Let me do it. I finished with my work" Lucas said.
"It's fine. I can do it on my own" Elijah sounded irritated. He didn't want anyone meddling in his work.
"It'll be easier and faster. I'll do it" he insisted.
"I said It's fine. Go do something else" Elijah stood up, patted Lucas on the shoulder and went to get the victim's information.
"But there isn't something else. Matthew is working on the last case for our team" Lucas whined following him.
Elijah rolled his eyes for the third time today, looking through files "Then go home. Enjoy your free time and stop bothering me"
"I'll be bored home" he mumbled.
"I don't care" Elijah grumbled, walking back to his desk.
"Oh come on! I can help you" Lucas still insisted, following him.
"Stop it! I said I don't need your help" Elijah shouted a little bit too loud and every head in the office turned to him. He looked around and sighed "Can you please leave?" he said in a softer tone.
"Okay" Lucas gave up and left.
"What was that about?" Matthew asked curiously, peeping from his desk.
"Nothing. I'm just...I'm tired and annoyed. I don't like that guy's vibe" Elijah sighed. He knew that he was jealous but he didn't want to admit it.
"Why? He's a nice guy and he does his work well." Matthew gave Lucas a compliment.
"I know. I just don't like how he's getting so close to Luna" he blurted.
"Why?" he stood up and went to him.
"I just... don't think he's good enough for her" he said.
"Are you sure it's just that?" Matthew asked. He knew that something was up. He was a quickwitted guy and knew what was happening around him.
"Yeah. I need to work now. Catch up with you later" Elijah quickly said and bolted out of the room sensing what's about to come.
He snickered and went back to work. He wasn't in the mood to follow him anyway.
