Lunar Eclipse

Chapter 24

Lucas' and Luna's hideaway spot was at the escape stairs. They snuck out there every day. They felt like teenagers. 

"Okay, stop. We really need to get back to work. " Luna barely mumbled mid kisses.

"In just a little bit" Lucas wasn't planning on  letting go of her soon. He wanted her for himself.

As they continued, they heard a sound. Both of them whipped their head in the direction of it and saw someone coming.

Rushing to get out of there, they both dropped something without noticing.

Their boss was climbing down the stairs. He saw a scarf and a handkerchief. Wondering who it belonged to, he took them to the lost and found they had in their office.

While walking there, Luna noticed the scarf and the handkerchief in his hand and started panicking.

"Lucas!" she whisper-shouted "Lucas!!" she did it a little bit louder this time.

"What?" he whispered, turning to her.

"Look" she nudged her head towards their boss.

Lucas noticed them too and knew it was theirs "What are we gonna do now?"

"We need to get it. It's from my dad" she whined, slumping on the chair.

"How?" he asked. He didn't know they had a lost and found box.

"He's probably taking it to the lost and found. But I can't get it. He'll know it was us. He checks the cameras to see who lost it" she put her hands over her face.

"But there aren't any cameras at the stairs, are there?" he asked, leaning on her desk with crossed arms.

"There aren't but there are in front of the entrance to them. He can see us coming out from there." she stated and looked up at him.

"How can he know what we did??" he raised his arms "Maybe we just needed a quiet place to talk about a case or something" 

"He isn't stupid Lucas. He's been suspicious of us ever since the incident with me" she sighed.

"What's up lovebirds? A problem in paradise?" Matthew butts in their conversation.

"We're afraid that boss might find out about us" Lucas said.

Matthew widened his eyes "Oh... well... That mustn't happen." 

"Yeah, no shit" Luna snickered.

"We need to focus on getting the scarf first and then we'll figure out what we'll do about Boss" Lucas declared, getting up from the desk.

"I can go get it and say that you have a lot of work to get it yourself?" Matthew suggested"Just tell me what happened."

Luna told him and Matthew bolted to Boss' office to get the scarf the moment he heard it was a gift from her father.

"But don't tell him it's from me, okay?" she added.

Matthew stopped and turned to her. "Okay" 

"Excuse me, sir. I think I lost a scarf or something today. Do you know where it is?" Matthew politely asked, hoping he didn't sound so desperate.

"One moment" Boss said and raised a finger. He scribbled something down and looked up at him.

"Okay, go on" he said and gestured for him to continue talking.

"Well, I lost a scarf and I think I saw you bring it here. I think you have it" Matthew sounded almost like pleading.

"And may I ask why do you have girl's scarf?" he remarks, resting his head on his hand.

"It's a gift for a friend. A very precious friend" Matthew's quick thinking gets him out of a sticky situation. If boss found out it was Luna's he would've most definitely fired both Lucas and Luna instantly.

"Here" he threw the scarf towards Matthew and he barely caught it. Matthew didn't know their boss was this rude. He thought that he was just very entitled.

"Thank you, sir. " Matthew bit his tongue. He didn't want to get into trouble.

"Wait," his boss said as he took something from his drawer in his desk "isn't this yours too?" he lifted up Lucas' handkerchief.

"Um.." he got closer to see it properly "no. I don't think so"

 Lucas and Luna forgot to tell him about the handkerchief. He only knew about the scarf. The boss smirked.

"Okay, you're free to go" he shooed him out of the office. Matthew just looked confused but stepped out anyway.

"Here you go" Matthew handed Luna her scarf. She snatched it out of his hand, hugging it.

"Thank you thank you thank youuu" she exclaimed, spinning on her chair. She was very happy that he got it easily. Or at least she thought.

The boss now had evidence that Lucas and Luna were hiding at the stares.
