Lunar Eclipse

Chapter 9

When Elijah finished examining the crime scene he headed to the hospital to check up on the autopsy.

He went inside the morgue and saw the pathologist looking at the deceased woman so he went to stand next to the body.

"What's new?" he asked.

"Well," the pathologist uncovered the body "the wounds show a sign of struggle and physical pain. And the brain scanner showed big signs of mental pain too." he continued.

"So, she was tortured maybe?" Elijah asked, rhetorically, squinting his eyes at her wounds.

"That's probably what happened. The brain scanner shows that too. You just need to find who did this to her"

"Alright. Thanks" Elijah said, covering her, not being able to look at her anymore.

"Oh, and I found this on her finger. Maybe it could be of use for the investigation" the pathologist added, handing him a ring that was exactly the same as he found in the park. 

"Thanks" Elijah said and took the ring.

He thought this could be her ring and the one that he found near the bench, Marcus' ring.

With a head full of theories and thoughts he headed back to his office to regroup with Luna and Lucas and see what they found out.

When he got back, Lucas and Luna still haven't returned from the interrogation so he decided to look into the photos he found in the trees.

After a while of looking through the files he found out that all of them are victims in the last ten years. The killer of them still wasn't found so the cases were unsolved.

Just as he was about to call Luna and see where they were, they came into the office. 

"Guys, did you find anything special?" Elijah inquired, looking up from the computer.

"Not really. The witness didn't see anything. She just heard some screaming" Luna said.

"Did you find anything?" Lucas asked, going behind Elijah's chair.

"Yeah" Elijah said and explained to them about what he saw and his theory.

He thought that the killer was killing women in their thirties. Looking at the similarities in their looks, the killer had a preference over one type of women, black-haired, skinny and good looking.  

"Were the pictures of already deceased women or?" Luna asked, curiously.

"Yes. But there is one that I couldn't find sooo... I think she isn't dead" Elijah said and showed them a picture.

"Wait a minute. Isn't this Emma?" Lucas asked, confused, turning towards Luna.

"Oh my god. It is." Luna said and quickly rushed towards the door. Elijah and Lucas followed her.

As they arrived at Emma's house they saw the door wide open, the cat sitting on the porch, sleeping.

"Shit" Lucas whispered. He grabbed his gun and slowly approached the house.

Luna and Elijah were behind him, also with a gun in their hands.

Lucas turned to Elijah"You stay here, " he then turned to Luna "and you, come with me"

They both nodded and Elijah stood in front of the door to keep guard.

They loved this part of the job. Especially Luna. It gave her thrills and the suspense was the best thing from her job. Even though she was scared, she loved doing this.

"Hello?" Luna shouted, walking around.

 She knew that nobody would answer, she just wanted to see if anyone is in the house, they would've made some kind of noise. But only silence is followed.   

"Is anybody there?" Lucas added. Again, silence.

Unlike Luna, he wasn't scared. He knew that if anyone showed up he could easily overpower them because he was confident in himself and his strength. That's why he was the best.

They search around the house but didn't find anyone.

In the meantime, Elijah started petting the cat as one of the neighbors passed him.

"Excuse me" Elijah shouted, getting up and putting his gun away  "Do you know the person who lives here?" he asked the stranger.

He thought he could get some information from him.

"Uh, yeah." the stranger answered getting close.

"Do you know where she went?" Elijah asked.

"I thought she was home. I don't know" he said, confused.

"Okay, thanks anyway" Elijah smiled.

The neighbor started walking away "No problem" he stopped and turned around "Oh, wait. I remember I actually saw someone come in a couple of hours ago. It was probably her boyfriend tho."

"Are you sure? How long are they together? Do you know the boyfriend?" he started attacking him with questions.

Luna and Lucas came out of the house as they heard the commotion outside and joined the conversation.

"Who's he?" Luna asked.

"The neighbor. He saw some guy come in here a couple of hours ago" Elijah answered.

"You think he would be our killer?" Lucas inquired.

"Yeah, definitely, but he's telling me he's her boyfriend" Elijah said and put a hand on his hip.

"Things are getting interesting" Lucas smirked.
