Lunar Eclipse

Chapter 3

Luna's head was filled with lots of thoughts regarding her work. Even though she liked working as a police detective she wanted a little distraction from all of the bad things that are happening in the world once in a while. Plus, it was Friday.

"Okay everybody" Matthew got up from his desk and clapped his hands "We're having a team dinner tonight. Everybody must come." he continued, making Luna's wish come true.

'Finally' Luna thought.

At that moment Elijah looked at her and feared for what's about to happen. She tended to get drunk on every team dinner they had since they started working together. It will be a bonus if they go to a karaoke bar after dinner. She'll embarrass herself even more.

"Are you going to go tonight?" Elijah asked, turning towards Luna.

"Yes, of course. Didn't you hear Matthew? I don't need another strike" she answered sorting some pile of paperwork.

"Are you sure? You have to promise me that you won't get drunk" Elijah stated giving her his pinky.

"I promise" she said interlocking their fingers.

She was determined to not get drunk this time but she was determined other times they went for team dinner and after just one sip of alcohol, that determination was out of the window.

As the night approached she began to rethink her choices. She said that she wanted some distraction but she couldn't have that without a little bit of alcohol.

Every year they go to a bar near the office but this time they decided to go to a famous bar named Essence. It was close to Luna's and Elijah's homes, just a few bus stops away.

As everyone arrived at the bar, they started eating immediately. Everybody was waiting for this moment because it was free food.

Luna was talking with Elijah about work when Matthew interrupted.

"Let's toast for all of the cases we solved so far" he said raising his glass.

Luna wasn't drinking anything so he gave her a glass of soju, Korean alcohol.

Elijah wanted to say something but Matthew already started clinking glasses with other people.

Luna just smiled innocently towards Elijah and she downed the whole drink. But before she finished it, Elijah took it from her hand and glared at her.

"You promised" he whispered so no one else heard them and put the drink on a decent distance from Luna.

"I'm sorry. I need to get my mind off of work and the only way to do that is to get drunk" she apologized, her cheeks already becoming red from the alcohol.

Even though she drank alcohol often, she was still a lightweight and after one big glass,she got wasted.

Elijah just sighed, figuring out how he was going to carry her home later.

As the team dinner continued she drank even more. She even sneaked shots when Elijah went to the bathroom because he wouldn't let her drink more.

When he came back from the bathroom he saw her laying on the floor, hugging her bag and mumbling some song.

"Let's go for a second round to a karaoke bar!" someone from their team shouted.

"Shut up! I'm singing" Luna got into a sitting position and started wobbling to the song she continued mumbling.

"Yeah, let's go!" Matthew agreed, all buzzed.

Elijah closed his eyes and sighed, hauling Luna up. It was the thing he most feared. He had a feeling that on Monday the conversations in the office will be about Luna because even now, she's embarrassing herself by laying on the floor.

She was wasted but she could still walk, so they went to the bar with the others. They chose a karaoke bar near Essence so they can walk there.

While everybody was having fun singing, Luna fell asleep on Elijah's lap. After a while, he wanted to go to the bathroom, but he didn't want to wake her up. He was relieved when she suddenly woke up when Days Gone By by Day6 started playing.

She got up, grabbed the mic from Matthew and started screaming the song. She was obsessed with that song. Some of their colleagues started filming her. They had a video of her embarrassing herself from every team dinner. Even though she knew those videos existed, they didn't stop her from doing it again.

After the fun in the karaoke bar, they all went home, some of them half drunk, some fully.

Elijah was the only one who held his alcohol well. He carried her to the taxi and got in with her in it.

While they were driving she leaned on him and fell asleep.

He starred at her noticing how beautiful she looked. He started thinking about her this way when they were in high school. They were friends for over 10 years then and most of the people thought they were a couple. His feelings started to grow when everybody implanted that thought in his brain. He noticed how smart and funny she is. But he didn't want to ruin their friendship by telling her that he likes her and pushing her away with that because he knew that she will never think of him that way.
