We were losing.
Everywhere you looked, there was death. Blood was everywhere and it didn't seem like the fight was going to end soon. I stood motionless on the side as I watched the scene unravel before me in slow motion. Then there was Blake in front of me. He gripped my shoulders and tried to shake me from the shock that settled in. I pushed his hands off of my shoulders and shifted into my wolf form. Wolf after wolf fell down as I ran toward the center of the battle. At some point in the battle, wolves from Blake's pack came and then we were starting to win. What seemed like minutes turned into hours as the sky slowly darkened. By the time the sun had fully set, there was only a few dozen or so wolves left from Lunar Claw pack turned and ran off the field. I shifted back into my human form and glanced down at my clothes. Blood was covering every inch of me and I didn't seem to care. The feeling of numbness settled over my body as I kept a straight face on. I walked around attending to the injured. Slowly the injured left the field as they were taken back to the pack hospital. The only remaining ones on the field was my father, brother, Thomas, my dads beta and gemma. Blake's pack members left with the remaining of the injured to help with what they can.
A quick glace at my brother showed a long gash down the sides of his arm and small scratches covering the rest of him. My father only had a few marks on his arms and that was about that. I looked over at Thomas and a long cut was on his face from his brow to his jaw. The Beta and Gemma were almost healed with little marks on their arms. I felt Blake watching me. On the corner of my mind, I could feel his concern for me. And what I didn't know was who's pain was I sensing. Was it me or him? I shook my head to clear my thoughts. Now is not the time to think about him. The urge to look over at him to see he was hurt was strong but I resisted it. Then I thought about how my dad was going to take hoe Blake is my mate. His mark was a burning imprint on my skin. I quickly covered it up and hoped that the smell of blood was stronger than his scent on me. I looked over at my father and saw he was already staring at me. I held his gaze until he broke the silence. Go back to the house and clean up Mel, take Alpha Blake with you and give him a pair of Jake's clothes to change into. I nodded and turned around to face Blake, I nodded my head to follow and we both silently walked back to mine and my brothers house. I walked up the stairs with Blake following behind me. I went into Jake's closet and pulled out a black t-shirt and pair of dark blue Under Armour shorts. I pointed to the shower in the hallway and handed him the clothes wordlessly. He tried to talk to me but I walked into my room and shut the door. I grabbed a random pair of clothes and got into the shower. I don't know how or when I got out of the shower but I was in my room in clean clothes sitting in front of my mirror.
We won the battle, but it didn't feel like a win with all the members we lost. A knock on my door brought me out of my thoughts. I turned my head toward the door to see Blake walking in. He walked over to me and held out his hand for me to get up. I grabbed his hand as he pulled me up.
"Your father wants us to go to the pack house." He said quietly. I nodded and I didn't stop the urge to look over him for any injuries. All I saw was small red marks where cuts healed over. I slipped on some sneakers and put my hair up in a pony tail. I grabbed one of my over-sized sweat shirts and threw it on. Blake and I walked in silence to the pack house.
We walked in the door of the pack house to see people running around. I decided to go to the living room to where I heard some people crying. I walked in and saw 2 women crying as they clenched their chest. I walked over to them and put my hand on their shoulders. They both looked up at me and I pulled them up and into a hug. They both cried on my shoulders and I just sat there while they cried. After a few minutes, they stopped and said 'thank you' to me. I walked around the pack house, trying to comfort those who lost a love one. Blake followed behind me as I walked around. After a while, I saw my mother doing the same thing. I walked up to her and gave her a hug.
"Your father is in his office. You two need to go, they're having a meeting." She said to me. I nodded and made my way toward the door. I heard arguing through the door as we approached it. I didn't bother to knock as I opened the door. It was my father, brother, Thomas and my fathers Beta, Pablo, at the door. I nodded to Pablo and he gave me a small smile. I walked over to the seats to where Thomas was sitting. I didn't feel like talking so I decided to mind-link him.
"Why are you here?" I asked.
"Beta Pablo wanted me here since I've been working with him on the battle plans." He responded. I nodded and pointed my chin toward my dad and brother, who was currently fighting.
"Why are they fighting?" I asked again.
"They have been fighting a lot lately, I just got here so I don't know the reason why this time." He responded.
"We do they not fight." I said and cut they link. I knew that they wouldn't stop anytime soon unless I stepped in. They usually fight about Jake's coronation that will be coming up in the next few weeks. I sighed and shook my head as I looked to the two fighting. They both were standing up across the table. It must be a bad argument since my fathers veins look like they are about to burst through his head. I walked over to them and snapped my fingers in front of their faces. They seemed startled at first before they recovered and turned toward me.
"When did you get here?" Jake asked me. I ignored him. It seems that they were to busy arguing to notice their surroundings.
"Why are you fighting." I spoke in a calm voice. It was the same voice that I use after a fight. Without glancing at Thomas, I know he recognized the tone of my voice.
"Well your brother is not following orders, and he wants to keep testing my patience with him." My father said to me in an even voice.
"I want to help with the defenses, along with keeping up with the injured to make sure that they heal well. But, father won't let me and keeps saying to focus on my paperwork that I need to do before my coronation." Jake said to me. I didn't look into his eyes to see the pleading in them to help change our fathers decision. I shook my head and looked at my father in his eyes.
"Just let him do it for a few hours. It's not worth the fight over it. And he can interact with the pack more before he becomes their Alpha. It will help transition from Alpha from you over to him if the pack won't try to compete for the spot because if they don't believe he is right for the position. If he helps the injured and the families that as lost a loved one, they are more likely to accept him father. If you don't want to let him do this for himself, then let him do it for the pack." I told him.
My father sighed and sat down in his chair. "Fine, but I expect you to still do your work before the end of the week." My father said. I looked over to Jake who mouthed a 'Thank you' and I nodded to him.
"I'm exhausted so I am heading home. Alpha Blake will be staying in my house while he is here so he will also come with me." I said to my father. Him and Jake nodded their heads before saying a quick 'goodbye' to me. I nodded to Thomas a goodbye who returned it. I walked toward the door as Beta Pablo opened the door for me. I nodded my thanks to him as I left. I quickly said goodbye to my mother who was still comforting the pack members. I walked out of the pack house into the dark of the night. I didn't have to look back to see the Blake came with me. He reached my side quickly as we walked back to my house. I could still sense the his concern for me. The house came into view and I quickly walked up the door steps and into the house. Blake came in after me and closed the door. I turned around to face him and we both just stood and looked at each other. I have been avoiding looking him in the eyes because of the one thing I know he would do. I pressed my lips together and Blake opened his arms open for me. I ran toward him as tears started to fall down my face. I wrapped arms around his neck as I buried my head in his neck and breathed in the scent of him. He picked me up and I automatically wrapped my legs around his waist. As he started to slowly rub my back, that is when I started to cry. I cried for all the members that died. I cried for all the ones who lost their mate, friend, father, brother, sister. I cried for the win that felt so much like a lost. And for the rest of the night that is all that I did.
I cried.
