Chapter 28

    A weary eyed Esme opened the door. She was still rubbing her eyes as she looked at me.

    "Melanie? What's wro-" She stopped in mid-sentence. She stood up straight has she looked at me leaning against the door. She lifted her nose slightly as if she smelled me. The color from her face drained. I doubled over in pain and Esme reached out to pick me up. Her hand wrapped around my arm and I yanked away as my arm started to burn where she touched. She stepped back from me and pulled her hair back. She began to mutter to herself. I didn't listen to what she muttered. I stood up some before, I doubled over in pain. Esme's eyes flew to mine.

    "Blake." She said. I looked at her weird. " He's your mate so he could help you. Well atleast I think he can."

    I began to shake my head at her. I don't want him to come here. He can't come here. She looked at me, before her eyes clouded over.

    "Dammit Blake!" She walked out the door and slammed it behind her. "He blocked me. I guess I'll go to Plan B then." She muttered. She motioned me to follow her and I did. She walked me to a door that I realized was Blake's room. I opened my mouth to object.

    "No Esme, I am not going in there." I said weakly. She looked at me.

    "Yes, you are. Based off of what I know, the scent of a mate should somewhat help. Now go lay down, you need to." She said.

    A burning feeling began in my back as she pushed me in the door and closed it behind me. I stood where I was for a few seconds, as I listened to her steps fading away. The burning began to spread throughout my body. I leaned against the wall for a few seconds before I turned on the light and looked at his room. His scent wrapped around me even though it was somewhat faint. I slowly walked over to his bed and sat on the side of his bed. The room had a dresser and a bookcase that was filled with books in it. On the wall there was pictures of people that were to far for me to see who they were. I didn't feel like moving alot so I turned on a small lamp that was beside the bed and turned off the main light. I walked back over to the bed and laid down. My eyes grew heavy as my head hit the pillow. I breathed in his scent and it didn't take long for me to pass out.

Blake's POV

    I was currently sitting in Alpha Jacobs office, discussing a treaty between out packs. It didn't take long for my interest to wonder off. Luna Josie, Jacobs mate, stood a step back from Alpha Jacobs chair observing the room. Her gaze kept wondering back to me. The clock chimed 4 o'clock AM, while we were still in the meeting. That means we have been in here for the past eight hours. I wasn't tired, and it didn't seem that Alpha Jacob and Luna Josie were either.

    In the back of my mind, I sensed Melanie's walls falter and a small amount of pain shot through the invisible bond. I stopped in mid sentence as I tried to sense anything else. Nothing. I began to worry.

    "Alpha Blake, are you alright?" Alpha Jacob asked me. I nodded and continued to talk. Luna Josie's was staring at me the whole time, with a look of concern. I ignored her.

    About ten minutes later, a small headache began to build, I ignored it. About a minute after the headache started to go away, my phone started to go off. I turned off the ringer and set it aside without looking who it is. It started to go off again and I reached to turn it off.

    "You should answer that. It's probably about someone." Luna Josie said. I looked at her weird. She was giving me that look that I couldn't quite explain. I picked up my phone as Esme's name flashed across the phone. I clicked the answer button.

    "Where the hell are you!" She screamed in the phone.

    "I'm at Alpha Jac-" I begin to say.

    "I don't care where you are at. You need to get here now!" Esme said. Her voice was frantic.

    "Why? Did something happen?" I asked.

    "You marked her you idiot does that ring a bell at all! Melanie is in heat right now so you need to get here now!" Esme snapped at me before hanging up. I looked at my phone as the blood slowly drained from my face.

    "You marked Melanie? As in my daughter Melanie." Alpha Jacob said. I glanced up at him to see him staring hard at his desk.

    "Yes. She's my mate." I whispered to him and sat down. I looked over to Luna Josie to see her smiling at me.

    Alpha Jacob's head snapped up to look at me, when I said she was my mate. He started to glare at me but I held his gaze and stood up straighter. After about a minute, he slowly sat back in his chair.

    "How long has Melanie and you known that you guys were mates?"He asked quietly. I glanced at the clock, and I started to bounce my knee.

    "Since I stepped out of the car, when I first came here. And before you ask, I already know about her" I told him. I glanced over at the clock again as another minute ticked by. Alpha Jacob opened his mouth to speak but I cut him off.

    "Listen, I know you have questions that you want answered because she is your daughter, but she is my mate and she needs me right now. So can I please go to her and I will let you know what you want, after my mate is taken care of first." I asked him. I glanced over to the clock again and began to mess with my hands. He glanced down at my knee bouncing, then my hands as I waited for what he was going to say. I saw anger flare in his eyes as he opened his mouth to speak. He was stopped by Luna Josie, who placed her hand on his shoulder.

    "Go," She said, "Go help Melanie, go help your mate." She gave me a loving smile and I gave her a small smile in return. I ran out of the pack house and shifted into my wolf. I sniffed the air and ran off into the woods towards my pack.

Melanie's POV

    It felt like days that slowly ticked by. But glancing at the window, it has only been hours. I groaned as I turned on my back. I closed my eyes as I tried to listen for anything other than the silence of the room and my breathing. A pounding on the door, sounded from downstairs, followed by muttering voices. I sat up some as I heard someone running up the stairs. The door opened and closed quickly as a wild looking Blake stood in front of the door.
