Sorry this is a really short one, just kind of a filler chapter. There's gonna be a time skip in the next chapter because this is the end of season two. The next chapter will be the start of season 3
People stood in a group for a minute, Lori walked to Rick.
It got dark quickly. I was sitting beside Daryl as he was tending to the fire. Everyone sat around it on logs. Katie sat on the ground in front of me and Daryl, closer to the fire.
"Can I do it?" Katie asked.
Daryl put the sticks in her hands then pointed at where to put it.
"See right there? The flames are spreading, gotta feed it over here so it spreads and the fire ge's a bit bigger," Daryl explained as she put them where he told her to.
Daryl sat back on the log and Katie smiled at him, he gave her a small smile in return. She curled up against my knees using my thighs as a pillow and watched the fire. Leaves rustled and Daryl stood up.
"What was that?" Katie asked.
"Could be anythin'," Daryl answered.
"A walker?" Katie asked.
"Could be," He answered, Katie swallowed her breath stopped short.
"If it is, I'll take care of it, nothin' will get to you Kate," He said.
Everyone stood up, trying to figure out where the sound came from.
"We need to leave, we're aren't safe here," Carol said, panic seeped into her voice. Katie stood up, wrapping the blanket around herself tightly and pressing herself against me as if she was trying to meld us into one. I took my throwing knife out of my belt and held it in my hand just in case.
"We need to move, I'm not sittin' around waitin' for another herd to blow through," Maggie said, her face looked angry, a lot of people were mad at Rick. I didn't know how to feel about it.
"Do something," Carol snarled.
"I am doing something," Rick hissed, "I'm keepin this group together, Alive. That's what I been doing all along. I didn't ask for this. I killed my best friend for you people for christ's sake!"
People stared in shock, I low key wasn't surprised.
"You saw what he was like, how he pushed me," Rick started, "How he compromised us, how he threatened us. He staged the whole Randall thing. Led me out to put a bullet in my head. He gave me no choice. He was my friend, but he came after me."
Carl sobbed against his mother. I didn't like Shane, wasn't upset that he was gone.
"My hands are clean.... Maybe you people are better off without me. Go ahead, I say there's a better place out there for us. Maybe it's just another pipe dream. Maybe I'm foolin myself again," He started calmly, but became more aggresive, "Go find out yourself, send me a postcard. You think you can do better, go ahead. Let's see how far you get."
Nobody moved.
"No takers? Fine, but let's get one thing straight. This isn't a democracy anymore," Rick finished. I hid all emotion from my face, I was pretty good at that. Most people looked afraid or worried. I looked... bored? Yet on the inside I was terrified, my heart was racing. What if there really is no where for us to go?
Rick walked away from the walls.
"I have to go to the bathroom," Katie whispered to me.
"Okay, leave your blanket, come on," I told her. She set her blanket down on the log and we left the walls. We walked about 50-60 feet away from the wall. I turned around as she went beside a tree. Then we made our way back. She curled back up into her blanket and sat staring at the fire with a blank expression on her face. I combed my fingers through her tangled hair. What's happening to us?
