It all started when you were younger. The first time it happened, it was the middle of the night. You were in your early teens and even though you had heard of things like this happening, you had never felt it in this magnitude.

You woke up in the middle of the night in pain. It felt as though your ribs had been kicked in or like someone was attempting to use you as a punching bag. The pain was sharp and sudden, and it didn't stop there. The pain moved to your neck and head and you cried out in shock, feeling a wave of nausea hit you as you moved towards the trash can.

"Honey, shh, it's alright," your mom stroked your hair gently as the tears ran down your cheeks. Your dad sat on the floor next to you, holding your hand tightly.

"What's going on?" You manage to choke out, the initial feeling of pain subsiding to a dull ache. Your head and ribcage still throbbed, a constant reminder of the events that had occurred. "Why... why is this happening to me?"

"It's your soulmate, Y/N," your dad smiled sadly, giving your hand a little squeeze. "Whenever they're in pain, you'll feel it too."

You close your eyes, the tears slipping out much slower now. All of the times you'd felt like you stubbed your toe or gotten a paper cut when, in reality, you hadn't hurt yourself... it all made sense now.

"But.." You trail off, scared of what the answer to your question might be. "What's happening to him?"

Your parents exchange a sad look, wrapping you in a hug and saying nothing. Little did you know, these random outbursts of immense pain wouldn't stop for a long time. They always started in the night, making it so you were almost too terrified to sleep. But, above all, you worried for the safety of your soulmate.

As you got older, you wondered if you even wanted to meet your soulmate. As the years passed, you had been to the hospital more times than you could count due to all of the pain you'd endured. One time, your skin was so hot that you thought your soulmate was being burned alive. Another time, you collapsed with heart pain, feeling as though it were being ripped from your chest. Though these instances never left scars on your body, you knew your soulmate had been through a lot.

There were other times, of course, that were less severe. Oftentimes, you felt as though your soulmate were just getting into a fight, taking a few punches to the face that often left you gasping for air.

You wondered if he even cared about you at all. You know that no matter how terrible a situation is, you would never willingly cause your soulmate pain. Is this so-called epic love even worth it if you have to spend countless days in a hospital bed until his pain subsides?
