Description: When you are born, you get a name on each wrist: the name of your soulmate and the name of your enemy.
Word count: 2,247
Your whole life you have felt like an outsider; a stranger living in someone else's world. You chalked a lot of that up to your childhood; being some sort of mutant-freak with superpowers isn't exactly the key to being popular. Add being a foster-child into the mix and you have one hell of a childhood.
But being different in that way never really bothered you; you could fake being normal by simply not using your powers or avoiding your "family," but you couldn't avoid your own skin. You had tried your entire life, keeping a bandage over each wrist to hide your shame from the world, wearing long-sleeves to avoid questions about the bandage. Sure, that may work to keep away prying eyes, but you were never able to fool yourself.
Because the reality of it is, you are different. You don't have two names printed on your skin like your friends and foster family. In fact, on one wrist, there's no name at all. You have one name on your left wrist, four letters etched permanently in black that serve as a constant reminder of your differences. "Loki" drawn in elegant calligraphy, forever staining your wrist.
For years you had tried to be optimistic. Maybe Loki is the name of your soulmate, not your worst enemy. Maybe this whole time spent worrying and doubting had been for nothing, and, when you met them, you'd laugh about it together. But deep down you weren't so sure. After all, you were nothing like the rest of the world. Maybe you simply weren't destined to have a soulmate.
You managed to avoid meeting anyone named Loki for a long time and you almost preferred it that way. Your powers of telekinesis managed to land you on a team full of extraordinary people just like yourself, the Avengers. They were like your family. Despite their obvious curiosity, they never asked about the band-aids covering your wrists; upon meeting them, you're not sure what you would have told them if they did.
But it turns out that joining the Avengers had one downside, and that downside was Loki.
When Thor first came to Earth blabbing on about his evil brother, you had thought the name must be pure coincidence. After all, how could the name on your wrist be that of a God? It didn't make any sense.
However, as Loki invaded Earth and the Avengers began their mission to stop him, you could no longer deny what was right in front of your eyes. Your hatred for the God of Mischief increased with every innocent human him and his army slaughtered. There was certainly no way a God who kills innocent people in an attempt to take over the planet could ever be your soulmate: Loki was your arch enemy. The day your best friend Tony Stark almost died saving the planet was all you could take; you had to know if Loki really had your name on his wrist, if he was truly the man you thought him to be.
You easily made it into STARK towers where the Hulk, better known as your good friend Bruce Banner, held Loki in his huge green hand. The God of Mischief looked beaten to hell while all-the-while still carrying an arrogant persona. Underneath your hatred, you could admit he was attractive. Something about his piercing green eyes and jet-black hair made your skin itch, and not in an angry way. But you weren't there to stare at him, you were there to get answers.
"Ah," Loki mused, choking on a bit of his own blood as he forced a smirk to his lips. "Y/N, was it?"
"I want to see it," you said, ignoring the way your name sounded beautiful in his accent. "I need to see it."
Something flashed in his eyes, recognition maybe, and you knew he knew exactly what your talking about. The God made no effort to hold out his wrist so you took it upon yourself, grabbing his left wrist while the Hulk held him in place. His skin was ice cold but that didn't matter, neither did the ink on his other wrist; all you saw was your name, "Y/N," printed on his left wrist in the same font as his own on yours. You shouldn't have been surprised, but the truth still hurt.
