Description: you may have a crush on a certain cute doctor
Word count: 913
"This has gone on long enough."
You sigh as your best friend scowls at you, her eyes shining with mischief as you walk past STARK towers. You know what she means and you absolutely do not want to talk about it. There's no need to think about the cute doctor that walks out of the tower every Thursday afternoon to go shopping with Captain America. After all, you don't even know the guy. You've had, what? One conversation? And it was about something stupid like the weather! It isn't possible to have a crush on someone you've never really talked to. Nope, no way.
"Y/F/N cut it out, would you?" You roll your eyes, dragging your friend away from the Avengers headquarters. "It's never going to happen."
"Not with that attitude," she scoffs, letting you drag her away as she looks at the huge building curiously. "Some day I'm going to make this happen."
Another Thursday afternoon and you find yourself looking for him as you walk past the building. Not that you don't look for him every time, because you do. Your routine is consistent: every week day you and Y/F/N get coffee before walking past STARK towers to go back to your apartment. You work as an editor for aspiring authors while she runs a small clothing store on the street over.
Today, Y/F/N is uncharacteristically quiet and that makes you a little worried. She's not one to keep her thoughts to herself.
"What's going on?" You stop on the sidewalk, grabbing her wrist and turning her towards you. "Are you alright?"
"I told you I was going to make it happen, right?" She rushes out, looking at something over your shoulder but stopping you when you go to turn around.
"Make what happen, Y/F/N, I don't under-" you start but stop when Y/F/N begins to fall, dropping her coffee on the sidewalk as she hits the cement ground quite softly.
Your mouth gapes open as she lays on the ground, not really sure of what to do. Her eyes are closed and the coffee is splattered all over making it look like she did actually just pass out in the middle of the sidewalk.
"Y/F/N get up! This is so not funny!" You hiss as you bend down next to her, beginning to get anxious due to all of the people looking over at the two of you.
"Should we call the police?"
"Is she okay?"
"What happened?"
Clearly, this is all part of Y/F/N's set-up to get you a date with the doctor, but if she's doing it right now then that means...
"Excuse me, I'm a doctor," a voice breaks through all of the others as a man pushes his way to you and your friend. You would recognize him anywhere with his curly black/brown hair and spots of stubble on his jaw. "What happened here?" He turns to you, warm brown eyes pouring into your own as you find yourself at a lost for words. They really are such beautiful eyes...
Y/F/N coughs and begins to sit up making you even more nervous than before. You know you're going to have to explain this all to him, but god, it's about to be so embarrassing.
"Well, you see, we walk by here practically every day and I see you sometimes and I think you're really cute and Y/F/N was tired of hearing me talking about it so she faked fainting to get your attention and I'm so sorry I promise she's alright," you spit out in one breath, your hands shaking nervously as you wait for the doctor's reaction.
"Would you look at that, I'm feeling better already," Y/F/N begins to sit up, a cheeky grin on her lips as she looks between the two of you. "Thanks, doc, you're a miracle worker."
At this very moment you wish you could disappear more than anything in the world. You're completely aware of the few people still staring at the scene your friend caused and your cheeks are certainly a bright red.
"So she's really alright?" The man says in uncertainty, his voice soft and comforting making you melt a little inside.
"Yeah," you rub the back of your neck awkwardly, trying to look anywhere else. "Maybe not mentally, but physically she's good." He laughs a little, reaching out a hand to help you to your feet which you graciously accept. "I really am sorry about this.. the least I can do is buy you a coffee sometime to apologize?" You surprise yourself by asking and watch with a small smile as a blush forms on his own cheeks.
"I-uh well," he stutters out and if you didn't know better you would say he almost seems nervous. "I guess coffee would be alright. I wouldn't want your friend's actions to be in vain."
You grin in relief at his words, little butterflies fluttering in your stomach at the thought of a date with him.
He pulls out a piece of paper from his pocket and a pen, scribbling down something before handing it to you.
"I'm Bruce, by the way," he smiles as you take the small paper and notice the ten numbers written rather neatly on the back.
"Y/N," you reply simply, the grin never leaving your lips.
"Let me know about that coffee," he smiles and you find yourself staring at the numbers in awe.
Your best friend squeals next to you and you notice something on the other side of the paper. Confused, you flip it over only to find a grocery list. You laugh to yourself; you might be seeing Bruce a little sooner than you thought.
