Description: your best friend drags you to one of Tony Stark's infamous parties against your will
Word count: 906
"Y/F/N, I really don't want to be here," you complain to your friend, unsure of why she even dragged you to this party in the first place.
Sure, you love a good party just as much as the next person, but today you are in no mood for it. You had previously been working abroad for a few months, just flying back to New York a few days ago. Y/F/N insisted that you attend this party with her seeing as she got an invite from her boss, Tony Stark himself.
You knew all about Iron Man from the gossip Y/F/N has told you, but you never looked into it. Sure, the guy is a hero and all, but that doesn't mean you need to get involved. Quite frankly, you hate the news and all of the tragedies it brings with it, so you ignore it at all costs.
Looking around, you realize that your friend is nowhere to be seen. Of course, how completely like her to drag you to this party only to disappear right when you arrive. Not only do you not know anyone here, but the party is so not your style. The music and lighting is all wrong, everyone is significantly over-dressed, and the food isn't all that great. What's so wrong with some nice, fried foods and upbeat party music? You never were much for high-fashioned publicity parties.
"You seem a little lost," a voice says, breaking you out of your self-pitying thoughts. The man talking to you, you realize, is strikingly handsome with rather messy dark-brown hair and a significant amount of facial hair that does his jawline justice. Behind a pair of shaded glasses, you can just make out warm, coffee-brown eyes.
"That's an understatement," you laugh, pushing a strand of your h/c hair behind your ear. "I'm supposed to be here with a friend, though she's been MIA for awhile."
"So you're not enjoying yourself, then?" The man smirks but it's not to make fun of you, it seems more like the smirk is natural to him.
"Not really," you admit sheepishly and watch as the man laughs slightly at your honesty.
"If you don't mind me asking, what's so bad about a little party like this?" He lifts his eyebrows casually, sipping on what looks like a glass of scotch. You regard him curiously, aware that you don't know his name. Then again, he doesn't know yours and it is just a party, after all. Everyone is a stranger until they actually meet.
"I don't know. I guess the music just seems off and the lighting is too bright and everyone is dancing but not in tune. I'll never understand why people get so dressed up just to get wasted..." you trail off when you notice him grinning at you and you wish you could just put a foot in your mouth. "I'm just not in the partying mood, I think I'm still jet-lagged from my flight."
He doesn't embarrass you or disagree with your statements about the party, instead he changes the subject and asks you about your time working abroad and what you do. You ask him the same back to which he replies that he's a mechanic of sorts and likes to build and create new things. Somehow you end up at the bar sipping water while the man asks you more about your life in general. It's almost better not knowing his name, that way nothing is expected but this pleasant conversation.
"Y/N!" A voice calls from the crowd and you turn your head to see Y/F/N making her way over to the bar. "There you are! Oh, so you've met my boss, Tony Stark! That's great," she smiles at the brunette who you've been talking to for awhile now and you can feel your jaw drop open as he smirks at you knowingly.
This whole time you've been trashing the party not knowing that he's the one throwing it! Your cheeks heat up in embarrassment and you wish more than anything you could escape his stupid smirk.
"Y/N, is it? That's a beautiful name, so wonderful to meet you," he grins, holding out his hand for you to take and, seeing as Y/F/N is watching you expectantly, you have no choice but to take it.
"The pleasure is all mine."
As soon as your friend walks away to chase down the bartender you lean over and smack Tony's arm lightly, scowling as he holds it in mock-pain.
"Why didn't you tell me who you were?! This whole time you let me drone on about not having fun and here you are throwing the party!" You exclaim in exasperation, feeling as though you might be sick.
"Relax, sweetheart," he chuckles, standing up and downing the last of his drink. "I appreciate your honesty, seeing as nobody else here ever gives it to me." Seeing no better response, you simply nod which makes him smirk again. "I enjoyed talking with you, Y/N. Maybe we'll meet again next time at a better party."
With a wink and a quick peck to your cheek, Tony Stark disappears into the crowd and you find yourself wondering if you imagined the whole conversation. The thought makes you a little sad because you really did enjoy talking with him. But when you look down at your glass, you notice a napkin sticking out from underneath it. A smile spreads across your lips unconsciously as you read the words hastily scrawled on the top.
Call me sometime, Tony xx

Hey guys! So I'm currently working on soulmate AU's for both Bucky & Clint which I'll try to upload as soon as possible! I was wondering if there's a certain character you'd like to see more of? I know I haven't written for Thor individually which is because his style of character is harder for me, but if that's something you guys would like to see I would definitely try it!! Anyways, let me know what you think!!
