Steve refuses to leave his room which he knows is selfish, really. He survived the battle with no more than a few scratches— he shouldn't be wallowing in self pity. But every time he brings himself to open his eyes, all he can picture is Tony.

Tony falling out of the sky, destroyed armor unable to support him. Tony hitting the ground, skin bruising instantly on impact. Tony's arc reactor flickering, fighting to keep the snarky brunette alive. Tony being rushed to the hospital, olive skin frighteningly pale. Tony hooked up to machine's unable to breathe on his own. Tony finally waking up after days only to not recognize himself or anyone else for that matter.

'He needs us right now, Steve. He needs you.' Nat's words rush back to him making him feel guilty for running away, for not supporting Tony when he needs him most. Steve's sure that he's scared out of his mind, not knowing what to do or who he is. But, selfishly, Steve is scared too. What if he never remembers? What if any chance Steve had at finally confessing his feelings is gone forever?

"JARVIS, where is Tony?"

"Sir has just arrived home from the hospital with Agent Romanoff," JARVIS gives a short and weak reply. Great. Even he sounds miserable.

Steve finally builds enough courage to leave his room and walk down the stairs, pausing to watch Natasha tend to Tony ever-so carefully. She has an arm around his slim yet curvy waist to help him walk, the bruises visible on his arms due to the black t-shirt he wears. Despite looking worn out, his brown eyes seem as curious as ever as he takes in the room around him. Steve flushes when he thinks he looks as beautiful as ever.

"We live here?" Tony asks in awe completely sure that he doesn't deserve to live in such a high tech place. "I own this entire building?"

"Mhm," Nat confirms but Steve doesn't miss the uncharacteristically fond smile on her lips as she helps Tony sit. "You're a lot of things, Tony, and a billionaire is one of them."

"And you all stay here with me?" He asks again though his tone is nothing but curious mixed with a bit of childlike enthusiasm.

"You invited us to move in two years ago," Natasha smiles at the memory. "Thor doesn't always stay-"

"Because he's a God and lives on Asgard?" Tony double-checks and Steve's sure his genius brain is on overdrive trying to relearn all of this information. The thought just makes his heart ache a little bit more.

"Correct. Bruce takes a few long vacations once in awhile but the rest of us— myself, Clint and Steve— live here with you full-time."

Natasha, having known Steve was watching from the doorway the entire time, motions for him to come in with a stern look that he knows better than to ignore.

"Where is everyone else?" Tony wonders innocently, eyes as wide as saucers as he gawks at the large TV in the living room.

"Clint, Bruce and Thor are meeting with Fury, as for-" Natasha goes to introduce Steve but Tony notices him before she gets the chance.

"Oh." Tony squeaks and his cheeks instantly go red in a way that Steve has never seen happen before. The billionaire is usually anything but shy but this- this awkward innocence- is enough to make Steve's features soften. "You're Steve. Captain America. You were there when I woke up."
