Light. Bright light, blinding almost. That's how it always starts. The sun is shining in the cloudless sky to the point where it's overwhelming and you want to look away. But you don't because you know what surrounds you, clutters the streets and buildings.
Chaos.
The sound of fighting, death and destruction pierces your ears and you find yourself wishing that you couldn't hear anything at all. You don't want to hear the dying breaths coming from your teammates over your comm. You don't want to hear the screams of families trying to run from the madness that surrounds them. But, most importantly, you don't want to hear the words of the man right in front of you staring at you with those evil eyes.
Because you've heard it all before.
"You can stare at the sun all you'd like, Y/N, but we both knows what waits for you on the other side," the voice snarls in your ears and you refuse to meet them, refuse to let them see you break. "There's no light waiting for you. No happiness. You won't get to see your loved ones."
Wrong, he's wrong. He has to be.
"All around you is death and destruction. Your team, the ones you love most, are dying beside you right now. Tragedy follows you around like the plague; everyone you surround yourself with dies. Maybe you're cursed. Actually, you're the curse."

You jump awake with a start, heart pounding furiously in your chest as you will your breathing to return to normal. The team had just returned from a pretty serious mission and despite the fact that you're exhausted, your mind doesn't seem to want to let you rest.
Fine. Guess you're going to the kitchen then.
Quickly pulling your hair into a messy bun and snuggling into your oversized Stark Industries long sleeve that Tony lent you, you shuffle downstairs in search of food. Or something to drink. Or a little peace of mind???
Only you're not expecting to find anyone in the kitchen other than yourself. Tony maybe, though he seemed much more inclined to lock himself in his lab.
But Bruce, you surely weren't expecting to see him.
"Oh, Y/N!" He exclaims when he sees you in your pajamas leaning against the door frame. "You scared me."
"Sorry, Bruce," you grin sheepishly, shuffling further into the kitchen so you're standing at the island across from him. "I wasn't trying to sneak up on you."
He regards you curiously before turning back to pull out a bowl but seems to think better of it and pulls out another one.
"Can't sleep?" He raises an eyebrow, adjusting the adorable glasses on his nose as he does. You shake your head gently and he lets out a soft sigh. "Yeah, me neither. Want to talk about it?"
"Do you ever wonder what happens after we die?" You ask quietly, sitting down on a stool and staring down at your hands.
"Not really," he admits, pulling things out of the refrigerator absentmindedly. "But I'm a scientist, Y/N. I believe in logic and facts. Religion has never been a huge factor in my life."
