It's not uncommon for different members of the team to get random nightmares once in awhile. In fact, it's so common that everyone looks past it. The type of work you all are forced to deal with oftentimes plagues sleep with visions of death and violence, so you've learned to accept the occasional sound of someone being awake at night.

However, when Bucky wakes up from a nightmare in cold sweats, he doesn't expect to see you in the kitchen... surrounded by various bowls and batter mixes.

At first he's just confused as he watches you waltz around the rather-large kitchen, adding flour to one bowl, chocolate chips to another, and shoving a pan into the oven. He's in awe of how quiet you are, like baking at 3 in the morning is a common occurrence for you. With a disbelieving smile and a shake of his head, he retreats to his room, deciding to let you be.

"Hey, babe," Tony mumbles as he presses a kiss to your cheek, shuffling into the kitchen at three in the morning, bags visible under his normally shining brown eyes.

Unfortunately, it was anything but unusual for you two to meet in the middle of the night like this; you both got nightmares so bad that he would retreat to the lab and you would bake until it physically hurt to stand.

"Tony, you should really get some sleep, you've been in the lab for days," you sigh, taking the last batch of cookies from the oven and placing them on the cooling rack.

"Don't think I haven't seen the freshly baked cookies or muffins every morning for the last few days," he grumbles, snaking his arms around your waist as he nuzzles his face into the crook of your neck. Tony knew how bad the nightmares got for you, but he never judges. Despite how unhealthy your habits are, it's nice knowing you both have someone who understands how hard it is to sleep.

"Okay, hot shot, you've caught me," you smile and turn around so that you can wrap your arms around his waist, your ear just above his lightly-buzzing arc-reactor.

"How about you scare my nightmares away and I'll scare away yours?" Tony says into your hair, pressing a kiss onto the top of your head.

"That might be an idea I can get behind," you tease tiredly, already feeling your eyes start to droop as you both stumble to bed.

After that night, you started finding suggestions on the refrigerator for things to bake. Unbeknownst to you, Bucky may have mentioned your late night/early morning baking coping method to the rest of the team and instead of embarrassing you about it, they simply let it go. You were thankful for new things to bake; something about combining ingredients and making something bigger both satisfied and calmed you down.

"Do we let them sleep? It's almost two in the afternoon?" Bucky whispers to Natasha as they see you and Tony sprawled out on the couch after another sleepless night. Tony is laying on his back with you mostly on top of him, your arms are loosely draped around his neck as he has one looped around your back.

"No, stupid," Natasha glares at Bucky, taking a blanket and carefully placing it over the two of you. "They literally never sleep."

Bucky sighs in defeat, going to the kitchen where he finds freshly baked coffee cake, obviously from your sleepless episode last night.

"Sure, their habits might be unhealthy but at least they can be insomniacs together," Bucky decides, stuffing his mouth with cake as they let you and Tony rest.
