XVIII

Sage's POV

I've never been to Canada before and it's really pretty, but I thought there would be more snow this time of year. The team arrived throughout the day today and now is at dinner and I'm probably going to be the last one there after I woke up late from my nap.

At least I thought I was, but I see Alex coming out of her room angrily talking on her phone and she looks like she has been crying. I don't say anything I just watch her incase she needs a shoulder to cry on.

"No Servando how could you do this to me? Someone you supposedly love." Alex angrily says into the phone. She waits for the person on the other end of the call to stop talking.

"No you can't say this is my fault." Dick. " I'm chasing my dream just like you, but unlike you I remained faithful...You know what I never want to see you again." She says ending the call.

"Alex" I say to get her attention and once I see her red puffy eyes I run to her and give her a hug. "Are you okay?"

"I'm okay Sage" she says, but her voice gets shaky giving away the fact that she is lying.

I don't really know what to say to her. After a while I take her hand and walk her to Mom and I's room and sit her on a bed." Alex I know what you're going through is hard, but remember you have a lot of friends that won't let you forget how amazing you are and how much we all love you. After the camp take sometime for yourself. Go spend it with friends or family. Hell go take a vacation. But don't beat your self up about this. There is someone out there that will love you in the way you deserve Alex."

Alex doesn't say anything, she just hugs me. After a while we let go of each other and scoot up onto the bed and just talk about stuff. Mainly how my visit with Mom's family went and what she is expecting from Canada. It's really cool to be around them off the pitch. All of the girls are really nice and very fun to be around. After talking about me and Mal somehow we got on the topic Mom and Christen.

"Wait so does nobody know Christen came to our house after that prick cheated on Mom?" I don't really have a problem talking about Mom's love life with Alex because I know she won't tell anybody.

"I mean I know now." Alex says with a smirk. " So do you think anything will come of it?"

"I do. I think Christen was going to talk to Mom about her feelings at the last camp but I told her to wait till at least this camp because I wanted Mom to have a little more time to herself before she gets back in the dating game."

Alex smiles" You know you're a pretty good daughter Sage."

"I hope so." I say now looking at the ground trying not to think of all the pain I've caused Mom, especially in the last week. Before Alex can talk Mom walks in.

"Hey Sage...Hey Alex" we both say our greetings back and I think the conversation between Alex and I is over, but man am I wrong.

Alex looks away from Carli and back to me and begins speaking with no regard for Mom being in the room. " Sage... you are an amazing daughter. Everyone can see it. You've brought so much joy to your mom. You bring joy to all of us."

"I also bring pain, worry, and heartache."

Mom speaks up. "Sage you couldn't have known that was going to happen. Sadly there was nothing you could have done to prevent it." Mom then brings me into a hug and Alex looks confused. I guess nobody knows about what happened.

"Wait what happened?"

I speak up knowing Mom was waiting for me to nod or shake my head about telling her" A couple of days ago I was taken by someone who apparently hacked my phone and was hit by him a couple of times then the police found me and we went to the hospital."

Alex is in shock and doesn't know what to say or do so I just pull her into the hug Mom and I still have going on. After a while we start talking again and then Alex gets up to leave and find food, but before she does Mom says something.

"Hey Alex Tobin has food for you. She was worried when you didn't show up to dinner."

Alex's POV

Walking to mine and Tobin's room I feel myself get butterflies. I must admit that even if Servando hadn't cheated on me I would've asked for a divorce because I had stopped loving him. I've had feelings for Tobin for a while now and every time I think of her my heart skips a beat and I get butterflies in my stomach.

"Hey Toby." I say walking into the room and see her smiling at me. Usually she hates being called Toby but she doesn't say a word when I say it.

"Hey Lex. I brought food for you." She says and gives me the food.

"Thank you."

"Where were you at dinner?"

I knew this would come up. Well she is my best friend." Someone sent me a picture of Servando getting with another woman and so I called him and he blamed me for it and I told him I never wanted to see him again and Sage saw me so she let me cry on her shoulder in her room and then we talked about stuff to get my mind off it."

Tobin brings me into a hug and I feel at home in her arms. "Oh Alex I'm so sorry. That prick didn't deserve you. If you need anything I'm always here for you."

"Thanks Toby. And honestly I kinda knew he was cheating because he has been distant lately, but I just didn't want to admit it." I was gonna tell her I stopped loving him, but decide to take Sage's advice and have some time to my self

Tobin decides to change the subject thankfully. "So what did you and Sage talk about?

"Well we talked about how meeting Carli's family went." I left out the part about her getting kidnapped, because I don't know if she wants others to know. "We then talked about the game against Canada, and surprisingly we got on the topic of her love life and so we talked about Mal and how Sage wants to ask Mal to be her girlfriend." Once again I leave out the stuff about Carli and Christen because I want them to go public on their own terms.

"Well they'd make a cute couple." Tobin says and I nod in agreement. After a little more talking curfew had rolled around and Tobin and I are sitting in bed watching TV when the fact that I was cheated on finally hits me and I start to silently sob.

"Toby." I say in-between sobs which causes Tobin to mute the tv and come sit on my bed.

"Lex... you okay?" I shake my head no. "Okay well do you need something?" I don't answer I just pat the bed next to me and Tobin gets the hint, crawls under the covers next to me, and lets me cuddle with her.

"Thank you Toby"

"Anything for you Lex." Tobin says then kisses my head and soon after we fall asleep.
