Merida POV
My brothers squished into the seat beside me. They squirmed and wiggled around. Our Head of House, Miss Katherine Thomas, stood up and cleared her throat. "Gryffindor, follow me out to our common room." Everyone stood up. I stood up and when I did so Hubert fell off the seat. Harris, Hamish and I laughed, hard. Hubert pulled a face and stood up. I followed the girl in front of me out the door, hoping that the triplets followed me.
As soon as we exited you could see that Hogwarts was massive. Looking out over the balcony that the path had you could see what seemed like thousands of staircases... that MOVED?! I tapped the girl in front of me's shoulder. "Um, excuse me? am I hallucinating, or do the staircases move?"
Oh no, they do move, you're perfectly alright," she replied. "Just, don't freak out over the paintings." I was slightly confused by what she said, so I looked up at a painting of a banquet. WHAT?! They were moving?! And they looked like they were having a good time!
"Oh, hello dear, don't mind us!" a woman on the painting exclaimed cheerfully. I took steps back at that. The girl turned back to me. "I told you not to freak out. I'm Haley. Haley Geoffreys."
Merida of DunBroch, Year 6," I replied.
"I'm a year 6 too!" She squealed.
Harris poked me in the back of my leg. I leant down to hear what he had to say. "We're here." I looked up. Miss Thomas was standing in front of a painting of a fat lady in a pale pink silk dress. "Password?" she asked.
"Harborstick," Miss Thomas replied. The fat lady's painting swung inwards and Gryffindor started piling into the room behind her. It was cozy, if not small.
The carpet was decorated with the Griffindor symbol. The couches were draped in red and gold rugs. A staircase led higher, then split off into 2.
"Girls on the left, boys on the right. If you want, there's a hot chocolate/coffee machine on the table." Miss Thomas said.
Mm, chocolate!" a red haired girl with her hair in plaits sighed. I walked over and asked her her name. "Anna of Arendelle," she replied. "Yours?"
"Merida of DunBroch."
"And I'm Haley Geoffreys." Haley piped into our conversation. "Merida and I are Year 6."
"I'm a Year 7," she replied (A/N I couldn't find Anna's actual age so I made her 17. I'm pretty sure she's 18 though) .
"Ih, well, we're going to go find our rooms now, aren't we, Merida?"
"Oh, yeah, sure, bye Anna!" I yelled after me as Haley dragged me up the staircase. I turned to talk to her but she cut me off. "Here's your room!" she announced. "Mine's down lower, I'm room 37. Bye bye now!" and she skipped of down the staircase, seeming as happy as a lark. What is her problem? She's nice around me, snarky around Anna, then she's happy again when she gets me on her own. Weird.
I looked at the list on my door.
Room 40
Merida of DunBroch
Carter Belford
Roberta Carrious
Sarah Parlain
Who calls their kid Roberta? I wondered. Ah well, I'm sure she'll be nice. I opened the door and walked inside. "Ah look, it's frizz ball Dun-homeschooling. Wondered when she'd turn up."

Eugene POV
Great. When people you barely know tell you on the stairs "Hufflepuff's the dweeb house," plenty seem to be taken by believing them. I think I was one of them.
No one I knew was in Hufflepuff. There was no seats near the Hufflepuff 'cool kids' so I ended up sitting next to a scrawny looking kid missing half a leg. Hey, was that the guy Rap and I sat with on the train?
"Harold, right?" I tapped him on the shoulder so he turned to look at me.
"Hiccup, actually," he replied.
"Can you repeat that? You hiccuped where you were supposed to say your name."
"No, um... My name is Hiccup. Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. Hiccup, spelt H-I-C-C-U-P."
"Oh. Um, Eugene Fitzherbert, Year 7." I introduced myself, if not a little bit awkwardly.
"I'm Year 5, and come on, everyone's standing up, I think we're leaving." Hiccup looked across the room. I saw a blonde yelling at a guy across the room on the Slytherin table, and that the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw were gone.
"I guess you're right," I scratched the back off my neck awkwardly. "Come on, let's go." To my surprise, Hufflepuff moved in an orderly line. I couldn't keep count of the amount of stairways and hallways we traipsed through to get to the common room. Two badger statues on pedestals asked for the password in sinc.
"Rangerblue," One of our Prefects, Sarah Casablanca, replied, then put her hand on a brick that had started glowing gold. Just like the entrance to Diagon alley, the bricks almost rippled away.
I stepped through the wall. Inside was a room with different style to what I expected. Plush gold couches, mahogany coffee tables, double doors of oak wood leading off to either corridors or staircases. Black, velvety carpet covered the floor and a 7 charts listed the timetables for all the years.
"Wow," I breathed a sigh of awe. Hiccup came up beside me. He nodded. One of the mahogany doors had BOYS engraved in gold. "I think the boys rooms are through that door."
"No, it's in through the door that's says GIRLS," Hiccup drawled back sarcastically. I rolled my eyes at his comment.
I walked towards the doors and stood in front of them. I poked them and they swung inwards on well oiled hinges. A elegant foyer stood before me. A waterfall was the centerpiece of the room, with marble floors and statues decorating it, and a glass chandelier hanging above the waterfall. Again, I sighed in awe.
"It must of been Hufflepuff's year to be redone," A year 7 mused.
"Pardon?"
"Every 50 years a different House gets their common and dorm rooms redone. This year must have been Hufflepuff's. I'm Carlos Pliento. You?"
"Eugene Fitzherbert, Year 7. We could be roommates." I replied to his question.
"Well, let's go check."
I walked the long sides of the room until I got to mine.
Room 1:
Eugene Fitzherbert
Carlos Pliento
"Really? Two-person rooms? Awesome!" Carlos announced. I agreed with him. Hufflepuff may not be the dweeb house after all.
