Merida POV
I couldn't believe it. Hiccup and I were friends! How could he do this? How could any of them do this! My friends, and Dagur... not now Merida.
How do I stop them? I thought. They can't hurt Dagur. But what if it isn't Dagur? If I follow them when they chase the person, I can prove it isn't him.
As I got into my Pyjamas and slid into bed, I had a happy felling inside. Now I knew Dagur would be okay.
---THE NEXT DAY AT BREAKFAST---
Hiccup POV
Eugene and I sat side by side, tensely waiting for the word go from Punz. All the traps were set up. Everyone knew there part. It was just a matter of timing.
Alright, go! Punz signalled. She and I got out of our seats and asked politely to go to the toilet.
"Of course, Hiccup," my Head of House said. I nodded my thanks and hurried out. I met with Rapunzel outside the dining hall.
"Everything a-okay so far Punz?" I asked. She nodded. "Well, then. Let's get going."
We left through the Entrance Hall, through the same door we had come in at the start of the year. It creaked slightly, and every time it did, I winced. I did not want to get caught.
Rap and I slid out. Everything was quiet. The lake was like a sheet of glass. The trees were dead still. Something was wrong.
"Go on, Hic, whistle," Rapunzel urged while looking anxiously at her watch. "We're running out of time!"
I nodded and let out a low, long whistle. The lake rippled and bubbled. 2 scaly, winged bodies rose out of the lake. The Scauldrons turned to look at us with their big, brown eyes.
"Hold out your hand Rapunzel," I instructed. "They're coming over."
Stage 1 of Plan Through The Door had started.
---BACK IN THE DINING HALL---
Astrid POV
Rapunzel and Hiccup stood up, and left. The five of us left looked at each other, tensed up, waiting for class. Finally the plates disappeared. I looked at Jack, who looked back at me.
He wasn't until stage 3. I was now. Stage 2. I followed behind Jack, and the rest of Slytherin, and at the end we dropped off.
"Look, Jack," I said. "I know I was a bad person to start off with this year, but the year's coming to a close. Could you forgive me for my bad behaviour?"
Jack smiled. "Sure. Good luck Viking."
"Good luck Frost." We fistbumped and went different ways.
I followed Punzie's instructions and they were bang on. There was the door, exactly as she had described it. Pine wood, bound in black, painted iron. I flicked it.
"Ow!" I hissed. "Crap! That hurt!" I went back to the shadows in the corner. I looked across the hall, past the corner. In the other corner I could see CC in position. But I shouldn't be able to see her.
"CC!" I shout-whispered. "Move back! I can see you!"
The look on CC's face was priceless. She moved backwards until all I could see was her eyes. We were stage 2. Team 2. Ambush Team.
---
Jack POV
I watched Astrid slip round the corner, and saw why Hiccup loved her. Slim, energetic, stubborn, strong... I shook my head. Why was she born a Viking and not a spy?
I walked around and followed Gryffindor to their common room. The Head of House, Prof. Thomas, said the password, "Bellyfluff!", and I slid in behind the last Gryffindor before the painting shut.
I scanned the room for my insider, signalling his name over and over. Snotlout! Snotlout! Snotlout!
I see him wave from over the room and follow him up the staircase. We stop infront of room 17.
"This is Dagur's room," Snotlout says. "He'll be here in 10 minutes. He'll be here for 20, then he'll leave. Good luck." And he left. I was alone in the room.
My job was to signal Team 2 when Dagur left his room. Then a thought crossed my mind. Is he rooming with anyone?
I slid out the door to check who was in his room. It was him, Snotlout, and this guy called Ralph Wreckit.
I sighed. What if Ralph came in? Our whole plan would be ruined. I slid back inside the room. I just had to hope it would all be alright.
Eugene POV
Natalie, CC and I walked out with our Houses, then split off. I saw CC and Natalie hug, then CC went one way and Natalie came over to me.
"Hi," she said cautiously. "Eugene, right? Rapunzel's told us a lot about you. Well, told me a lot about you. CC's not here anymore."
"Right," I said awkwardly. "Welcome to Team 4. We're-"
"Distraction Team." Natalie cut me off. "I know. We distract him- or her- while Team 2 - CC and Astrid- ambush them."
"Could of said it straight from the book."
"Oh," Nat blushed. "Thanks."
"Come on, let's get going. We gotta find Dagur and distract him. If it's him, he'll try to avoid us and he'll head back to his room. That or he'll have been to his room first."
"Go time," Nat said excitedly.
"Nope." I replied. "Wait time. He has to go past this corner to get to both Gryffindor common room and the Door. So we wait."
---
Hours and hours passed. Finally, we heard footsteps. It was Dagur, and he was hurriedly walking away from the Gryffindor common room. I signalled to Nat and we walked up to him.
"Dagur, hey, I don't think we've met," I said cheerfully, walking up to him and giving him a big pat on the back.
"I'm Natalie," Natalie introduced.
"I'm Eugene," I followed. "So where ya going bro?"
"Just... to the library," he said after a pause.
"Ooh, we have to go there too!" Nat said excitedly. "Can we come?"
"I... prefer to do my studying alone," Dagur looked like he was struggling for excuses.
"Oh," Nat put on a very hurt face. She was very convincing. "We'll go then."
Nat and I turned around and walked round the corner. I turned around and checked, and sure enough, Dagur was gone. In his place was Jack. He smiled.
"It's time for our plan to finally unfold," he said. "I've signalled. Everything's ready."
"Then it's finally go time," Nat said.
And it was.
