Eugene POV
Everyone walked back to the castle. It was dark when we got back, the stars twinkling above our heads. The great oak doors swung open and we entered the Entrance Hall.
To my surprise (and everyone else's), Edmund Sagewhisper waited for us. He gave a nod.
"Kids, up to your dormitories please." He instructed. When we didn't move he said "Well, what are you staring at? Off you go! Chopchop!"
"Can you take Hiccup to his room Eugene?" Astrid asked. I nodded and she lifted him into my arms. I threw him over my shoulder in a fireman's lift instead. I wasn't carrying him bridal-style.
I trekked though hallways and finally got to the entrance. "Password?" the badgers asked. "Rangerblue," I replied. The wall slid open and I trudged in, lying Hiccup on a couch and falling onto the one next to it.
"What are you doing up?" a fourth year girl I didn't know was sitting on one of the couches closest to the girls dorms. She had brown hair in curly ringlets that went down to just below her ribs and startling green eyes. She was almost a girl version of Hiccup.
"I - er... I had... Extra Tranfiguration classes! I'm failing." I replied, blushing. I really was failing Transfiguration.
"Oh, okay. I was just up finishing my Potions essay on Boomslang skin. Well, goodnight." And with that, she walked off through the doors to her dorm. Sighing, I went to pick up Hiccup again, but he stirred.
"Where are we Eugene?" he asked me, yawning.
"Hufflepuff common room. I'm going to bed. Night, Hiccup." He just waved. I stomped off, the oak doors opening for me.

"Morning!" Carlos' voice greeted me as I rubbed my bleary eyes. Carlos smiled. "Come on, we have to get down to breakfast. Breakfast will start soon! Race you there!"
I quickly changed into my robes and Carlos and I ran out of our dorm, through the hall and into the common room. We stopped running only to open the wall to get to the hallways.
Carlos just beat me to the great hall. I slid into a seat, panting. "Good race."
"Thanks," he smirked. I looked around the table. The girl from last night was up the end with her friends, and Hiccup was sitting across from me. The golden crockery on the table in front of us was still empty.
"He hem." Professor Sagewhisper cleared his throat. "Is everyone here? Then we will begin.
"Today we have a new teacher joining us. Will everyone give a warm welcome to Professor Haddock!" The hall erupted into applause. Valka stood up and waved. She seemed relaxed. Professor Sagewhisper took this as a please continue.
"Professor Haddock will be teaching Care of Magical Creatures. Those in 3rd year and over will have it on every third Herbology session. Now, you may eat!" The plates filled with glorious food, golden toast, waffles, pikelets and jam of every type. There was even potatoes. I piled my plate 'till it was full, then tucked in. Mm, I thought. Today'll be great.

Valka POV (weird I know)
I looked down at the enchanted schedule Edmund had given me. My first class was the 5,6 and 7th years of... Hufflepuff and Slytherin. I hustled and bustled around, looking for my next lesson.
Then I heard some murmuring, and I knew my first class was here. I shooshed the animals and turned to my class.
"Alright everybody, quiet please! Listen up!" I instructed the class. "Alright, everybody, I heard from Professor Frazenheart that this is your first Care of Magical Creatures class, as the position was vacant until now, three months into your education. Any questions?"
A couple of children raised their hands.
"Yes...?"
"My name's Jack Frost, Professor, and my question is: What are we doing in class today?" A boy with white hair and clear blue eyes said casually, but I could tell he was excited.
"We'll get to that." I replied. "Anything else?"
"Pro-professor?" A smaller boy with golden hair spoke out.
"Yes?"
"Well, I'm Fillip Felix Jr. ma'm, and I was wondering, well, what sort of creatures will we be studying in this class? I mean, I've read up, and there's -"
"Thank you, Fillip, but yes, in this class we will be studying a large range of creatures, unicorns, sphinxes, grindylows, centaurs, aaaaand..." I finished dramatically.
"GRIFFINS!"
"Wow!" The class sighed in awe as the herd of beautiful creatures soared out of the Forbidden Forest. There was palominos, chestnuts, steel greys, blacks, and whites. A black one flew up to my side and nudged me, looking for food.
"Yes, hello to you too Jet," I murmured, stroking the back of his feathery head. I turned to address the class.
"As you can see, these are griffins. Griffins are half-eagle and half-lion, with bird talons and their forelegs and lion claws on their hind legs. Once tamed, a relationship with a griffin could go one of three ways: it could be a trusting partnership of loyal friends, a scared slave of a cruel master, or enemies determined to rip each other limb from limb." I finished.
"But, we're not going to form a relationship today. No, we're going to show you how to form an alliance."
"We?" A black haired girl in the back of the crowd scoffed.
"Yes, we. Me, and my loyal companion, Jet."
Astrid POV
I giggled, watching Heather curse under her breath in misfortune. She had long been an enemy of Berk, and I had an especial bone to pick with her because she stole my dragon, Stormfly, as a getaway ride.
"Right, the way to form a temporary alliance is simple." Professor Haddock (as we have to call Valka now) was talking. I turned around to give her my full attention. I had a feeling this would be one of my favourite classes.
"I'll instruct you as you go." Prof. Haddock continued. A lot of kids breathed a sigh of relief, me included. I never would have memorised it all. "Alright everyone, pick a griffin."
I walked around, looking at each griffin closely. I finally stopped and stood in front a steel grey with blue tips on its wings and yellow eyes.
"Ah, yes, Astrid, this is Razorwing, one of our younger herd members." Prof. Haddock had snuck up silently behind me. I jumped as she whispered in my ear. "You're doing well." She turned her attention to the full class.
"Once you have picked a griffin, walk forward slowly. If they like you, they will walk toward you and let you stroke behind their ear."
I stepped forward, slowly. Razorwing tilted his head, looking at me curiously. What's this? He seemed to say. I took another step. He tilted his head even further. Please work, please work, please...
Razorwing strode forward, further and further until his beak butted into my chest. I stretched my hand over his neck, scratching behind his ear as Prof. Haddock had instructed. Razorwing purred, and inside I glowed. So far, so good...
