Joey Wheeler vs Mai Valentine

Joey and Mai then went on each side of the stadium to prepare their duel. 

"Go get her, Joey!" Tea cheered Joey on. 

"Kick her butt!" Tristan chimed in. 

"Yeah!" Joey smiled at his friends. 

"He'll do fine." Yugi said, softly.

Lea just had an emotionless expression on her face as she whispered, "Good luck." 

"Since you only have one measly star chip, I only have to bet one of mine against you." Mai said, arrogantly. 

Joey just looked at one of his star chips as he thought to himself, 'At least this region will give me a field advantage.'

He then noticed the mountains on the field... so now he became frantic, "Huh? Oh no! What are all those mountains doing on my field?!"

"The field we'll battle on is 40% forest, 40% mountain, and the last 20% is meadow. So deal with it or surrender." Mai answered, coolly. 

"Calm down, Joey! You'll be ok! Your monsters will still get a field power bonus on the meadow part of the field!" Yugi assured Joey. 

"Oh, yeah." Joey agreed, before he faced Mai. 

"Listen, Mai. Not for nothing, but I gotta ask you one question before we duel."

"Hmm? What?" Mai asked, confused.

"Why did you decide to take part in this tournament? Tell me, Mai. Why is it you duel?" Joey demanded, which made Mai's eyes darken. 

"Why do I duel?" She asked confusedly, before she suddenly went all cheery. 

"For all the comforts that I crave: Designer clothes, travel, perks. Anything to avoid real work. Hot cars turbo-charged for livin' large." 

Joey scoffed in reply, "Huh! So that's why you want the prize money? How selfish."

"How dare you try and judge me! Who do you think you are, you pathetic little snot?!" Mai snapped back. 

"Hey, you're only dueling for things. But for your information, some of us fight for the people we love." Joey replied, calmly. 

"You'll show her, Joey. Show her what it's like to duel from the heart." Yugi agreed with Joey.

"Duel!" Both Joey and Mai said at the same time, before Joey took out his first card. 

"So to start the game off..." Joey started, before he placed his first card in front of him and summoned his monster.

"Masaki, the Legendary Swordsman." 

Then the Masaki appeared on the field by Joey's command. 

"The field power bonus will bring his power up over 300 points. Hey, I made my first move!" Joey announced, proudly.

Mai scoffed a bit, before she went to take a moment to pick a card, leaving Joey impatient.

"What do you think you're doing?!" Joey demanded.

"Diving my card. I have to mystically choose which one of them's the best." Mai answered stoically, which caused Joey to cringe.

"Huh? What are you, a psychic?"

Mai still took a moment to choose a card while saying, "And the best card would be..." 

Mai then opened her eyes as she thought of what her card will be, "The Harpy's Lady!" 

Then Harpy's Lady appeared on the field. 

"Her strength is boosted by the mountain's field power bonus." Mai described her monster.
