Meanwhile, Tea and Mai went on each side of the stadium, and both women faced each other, prepared to duel.
"So what do you say, Tea? You ready?" Mai asked Tea, firmly.
"Totally! Let's go! It's time to duel!" Tea replied, with the same level of firmness in her voice.
"Yugi's still lost in his own head." Bakura told the others, concerned.
"Well, maybe a little duel will actually snap him out of it." Tristan replied, hopefully.
Tea took out her card and announced, "All right, Mai! I'm playing the Petit Angel, in attack mode!"
Then the Petit Angel appeared on the field. The Petit Angel was a really cute monster, and it made both Joey and Tristan shocked and looked at the monster awkwardly...
"What is that...?" Joey asked, completely shocked.
"Come on, Tea! That is not funny!" Tristan called out to Tea, before Jill bluntly smacked him on the back.
"Tristan, shut the fuck up and let Tea duel, damn it!" She snapped, defensively.
Mai just laughed a little, then she took out her card and summoned her monster, "I play Harpy Lady! Attack mode!"
Then the Harpy Lady appeared on the field.
"Uh..." Tea said, hesitantly.
"And I'll play this too, facedown." Mai added, as she pushed her card forward.
"Right, um..." Tea started to say, but Mai cut her off.
"Attack!" She commanded her monster, which made Tea shocked. Then the Harpy Lady went to attack the Petit Angel, and the Petit Angel just kept dodging the Harpy Lady's attacks.
"Whoa, that was close!" Tea commented in relief, and just then, the Harpy Lady just attacked the crap out of the Petit Angel, and the Petit Angel disappeared for good. The others including Tea were really shocked as hell at the sight!
"You know, Tea, if you're trembling with fear after just the first round, maybe you should quit right here." Mai taunted, before Tea's life points went down to 1300.
"No way, Mai! I'm in it to win it!" Tea snapped back, as she placed her next card down in front of herself.
"Go, Fairy's Gift!" Tea summoned her next monster, before it appeared on the field.
"Ugh, another of these cutesy cards? Come on, what are we having, a duel or a pageant?" Mai groaned, slightly frustrated at the cute monsters Tea keeps summoning.
Tea just scoffed and looked at her cards for a moment, 'Waboku? Oh, I remember this! It's a trap card, a powerful one. If only I can remember what it does! Think, Tea, think!'
Then she realized what she could do, 'I just better figure it out before I really need it!'
Then she spoke out loud, "This too!"
Mai was a bit confused...
"Facedown." Tea announced firmly, as she placed the card facedown in front of herself.
"Ok, a rocky start, but I think Tea's back on track." Joey commented.
"I hope you're right, Joey. Everything is riding on this duel." Bakura replied to Joey, tensely.
"Don't worry, Bakura. She'll do fine." Jill reassured Bakura, confidently.
Then Tea commanded her monster, "Go Fairy's Gift! Attack with enchanted dust!"
With that, the Fairy's Gift spread out her dust on the Harpy Lady. Tea just watched intently, hoping to God that the dust will destroy the Harpy Lady.
'What's taking so long? My fairy's attack power is higher than that harpy! It should be taking her down! Something's wrong. But what?!' She thought to herself tensely, before the Harpy Lady just got out of the dust!
"Oh no!" Tea exclaimed, completely shocked.
"Sorry, hon. But I activated my magic card, Rose Whip. A personal favorite, it gives my harpy 300 extra attack points." Mai taunted coolly as she held up the card, which made Tea surprised.
"More than enough to defend her from your silly pixie dust, and take out your fairy as well." Mai continued, which was making Tea pissed and she trembled in anger.
'Too late to call out my fairy's attack now, I just have to hope for the best!' Tea thought to herself, tensely.
"Now, my Harpy Lady, whiplash attack!" Mai commanded her harpy, before the Harpy Lady did as Mai had requested, and the fairy was destroyed for good! Tea was shocked at the sight, then her life points went down to 1100!
"How about that? Your fairy turned to dust." Mai taunted. Tea just growled in reply.
"Clever move." Bakura commented, which made the others confused.
"Mai tricked Tea into attacking by making her think that her fairy had the most points. But what Mai didn't reveal until after Tea attacked was that she had a magic card waiting to power up her Harpy Lady. Another mistake like that and it's all over!" Bakura explained.
"If you have any idea what you're really up against, Tea, you call it quits right now. This isn't going to get any easier you know. Just give up and go back to cheerleading!" Mai taunted, firmly.
"No, I'm not going to let Yugi down, Mai! And I promised Jill I would duel for my sister!" Tea snapped back.
"Please, if this is the start of some friendship rant, just save it. I've heard all your lame speeches before and from that look on Yugi's face..." Mai scoffed, before she turned to look at Yugi, who was still discouraged, and continued.
"I'd say he has too." She added, before she snickered.
"Take that back!" Tea snapped, defensively.
"Come on, admit it! Everyone sees how scared you are." Mai taunted, as Tea just growled in anger.
"You're just a little girl who's accidentally stumbled into the big league, but whatever, you'll learn the hard way." Mai continued, which was making Tea more pissed.
With that, Mai looked at her cards for a moment, "Harpy's Feather Duster."
Then she took out the card of a feather duster and announced, "My turn, hon! And I'm playing this, facedown."
Then she placed the card facedown in front of herself, which concerned Tea.
'Facedown again? I hate it when she does that!' She thought to herself, before she picked up her card.
'Makes it hard to know what to play next.' She continued, as she looked at the card she just picked up, and it hit her!
'Shining Friendship. Hey, that's like all of us! We're all in this together! Boy, I wish this card was as strong as our real friendship. Then it would be able to defeat anything.'
Then she sighed, 'It would have Joey's courage, Tristan's spirit, Bakura’s knowledge, Jill’s confidence... and Yugi's heart.'
Then she heard the familiar voice of a little girl giggling, so her eyes widened in realization!
'And Lea's faith too!' She added, as she felt tears forming in her eyes.
"You can do it, Tea!" Joey cheered Tea on.
"We're with you!" Tristan chimed in.
"Go, Tea!" Bakura chimed in as well.
"We believe in you!" Jill chimed in as well.
"Yugi, are you with me?" Tea asked Yugi, before Yugi suddenly lifted up his head, still a bit discouraged.
'Maybe this card isn't as strong as our friendship. Well, there's really only one way to find out!' She thought to herself, before she placed her card down in front of herself.
"Shining Friendship in attack mode!" Tea summoned her monster, before it appeared on the field.
"You can't be waiting all this time for that little butter-ball? Fine then. Harpy Lady, Whiplash attack!" Mai commanded her monster, before the harpy went to charge at the Shining Friendship.
Then Tea quickly pulled out her card, "Not so fast, Mai! I placed a trap, and I remember now what it does! So I'm activating Waboku!"
"Waboku?" Mai asked, slightly confused.
"That's right! And Waboku reduces the attack points of my opponent's creatures to zero! So my Shining Friendship is unharmed." Tea replied, firmly.
"I think I taught Tea that move." Joey commented, smiling.
"Yeah." Tristan nodded, before he turned to face Joey and smirked.
"If by 'teach' you mean getting schooled everytime she beats you with it."
"Watch it!" Joey grumbled, annoyed. Jill just giggled.
"You're right, Mai. Maybe I am scared up here dueling you for such incredibly high stakes, but this card reminded me of something that helps me face that fear: My friends! And I know with all of them backing me up, I will win!" Tea stated, before Mai took a glance at the others.
"It's like the card says: Shining Friendship. No matter how dark things may get, the special bond I share with my friends, will always find a way to shine through. I may be scared, but that fear won't keep me from dueling, or from keeping my promise to Jill, or from helping Yugi, OR FROM WINNING THIS DUEL!" Tea continued, finally.
"Yugi? Is any of this stuff getiting through to you? Don't you see? Tea's putting us up in the line for you!" Joey suddenly asked Yugi.
"Exactly." Jill chimed in.
"Even though she's frightened, she still battles on. It's quite inspiring, really." Bakura chimed in as well, then it suddenly caught Yugi's attention.
"Nice speech, Tea. In fact it was so stirring, I almost feel the need to throw up." Mai remarked, sarcastically.
"Can it! I've had enough of your insults!" Tea snapped angrily, before she pulled out her next card, which was the Magician of Faith!
'Hmph! The Magcian of Faith!' She thought to herself, before she placed the card down in front of herself.
"I'm playing this in defense mode, and that's not all! I'm playing the Silver Bow and Arrow card, which raises my creature 300 points!" She announced, before her life points went up to 1600 and 1400.
"Fine with me." Mai rolled her eyes, which was making Tea tense.
"It's not like I don't have magic cards too. Cyber Shield!" Mai summoned the shield, before the Harpy Lady seemed prepared for the shield to appear on herself.
"Tell me what you think of this makeover!" Mai taunted, just as the shield suddenly appeared on the Harpy Lady.
"Now Harpy Lady's attack will be 500 points stronger." Mai taunted again, just as her life points went up to 2100.
Then Mai suddenly took out another card, "But wait. I'll also play the D-Spell card."
Tea was shocked when Mai announced that, so the Bow and Arrow suddenly disappeared out of the Shining Friendship's hands.
"You've been deaccessorized." Mai taunted, before she snickered to herself.
"Not good." Tristan commented, tensely.
"Hold on, Tea. This might be rough!" Joey called out to Tea, reassuringly.
"Hang in there!" Jill chimed in, before Yugi suddenly got surprised!
Mai still snickered and said, "And I think I'll attack your facedown card to demolish any hopes you have left"
Tea was surprised, then she saw that the Harpy Lady used her whiplash against the facedown card, and it revealed the Magician of Faith, and she disappeared for good! Tea was tense by now!
"There! No more hope! No more faith, no more chances!" Mai taunted, and Tea was starting to lose hope!
"Don't you know the rules yet, Tea? Since I've flipped your Magician of Faith over with my attack, you get a card back from the graveyard." Mai advised, slightly annoyed, then it hit Tea!
Then Tea picked up her card and was panicking a bit.
"I mean, what can you seriously hope to beat me when you don't know the rules? Look, honey, I'm sure that everyone's really impressed that you've lasted this long, but all you're doing is delaying the inevitable." Mai continued, with a bit of an eye-roll.
"I won't give up!" Tea snapped back, which made Yugi surprised.
"Come on, what you're doing is pointless. Yugi's already given up himself. You're not going to be able to keep fighting for him. He has to fight for himself. He has to stand up to anyone who dares to get in his way! And whatever's going on in his head, Tea, Yugi has to deal with it on his own." Mai explained sternly, before Yugi thought to himself.
'Maybe Mai's right. Maybe I have to fight harder. Maybe I gave up too easily. What do you do when the thing you're fighting against is some kind of magical spirit that can take control of you? Something that's lifting inside of you? What do you do then?'
"Face it, Tea. Yugi's checked out. He's given up. He doesn't care about this match, and he doesn't care about you. Nothing's worth the humiliation you're going through." Mai stated, boldly.
"You're wrong! My friends are worth it! Always!" Tea snapped back. Mai just looked at Tea blankly.
"I don't care how much experience you have playing Duel Monsters. I don't care what the odds are against beating you. I won't give up. Not on this match, and not on Yugi or Lea either." Tea explained passionately, before she felt a tear come out of her eye.
"I won't give up. I won't." She continued, as she was on the verge of crying. Everyone just looked at her sadly.
"Tea..." Was all Yugi could manage, as he whispered softly.
"Don't let these tears fool you, Mai. I may be crying, but I've never felt stronger. So you better get your star chips ready, because I'm about to beat you!" Tea stated in determination, which made Yugi speechless.
"And there's not a thing you can say or do that'll stop me!" Tea continued, finally.
"You may have a tendency to run at the mouth, but you've got a lot of spunk." Mai scoffed, completely impressed with Tea's confidence.
"Give me your best shot." Mai encouraged, just as Tea pulled out her card and thought to herself.
'This Elf's Light is a good card, it would give me a major power boost to my Shining Friendship.'
Then she moved her card aside and realized that she also had a D-Spell card!
'And I also have a D-Spell card! I can use that to get rid of Mai's Cyber Shield! Plus, since I recovered my Silver Bow and Arrow from the graveyard, I can add it 300 point power boost to 400 point boost that I get from my Elf's Light card! Then my Shining Friendship's attack power will be 2000! I just hope that'll be enough!'
Then she spoke out loud and presented her Silver Bow and Arrow card, "First, I'm playing the Silver Bow and Arrow that I brought back from the graveyard!"
With that saying, the Shining Friendship had just come back from the Graveyard and was holding the bow and arrow! Then the life points went up to 1600.
Then she presented her Elf's Light card, "Next, I'll use my Elf's Light to power him up even further!"
With that, the Elf brought her light to the Shining Friendship, and it began turning into a fairy.
"Now Shining Friendship is 2000 attack points strong!" Tea announced.
"Hm, that's still not enough. Harpy, attack!" Mai scoffed, before the Harpy Lady went to attack the Shining Friendship.
"Yes it is." Tea said darkly, which made Mai surprised. Then Tea pulled out her D-Spell card and grinned.
"Or does the magic D-Spell not apply to you, Mai?" Tea taunted, which freaked Mai out. Then the Harpy Lady lost her Cyber Shield. The others were all shocked at the sight!
"Fascinating!" Jill breathed, in awe.
"Attack, Shining Friendship! With silver lightening arrow!" Tea commanded her monster, before the Shining Friendship readied her arrow and pointed it to the Harpy's direction, then she took a shot at the arrow, and suddenly it landed on the Harpy and she was destroyed for good!
"Bullseye! Friendship!" Tea cheered, happily.
"What a shot!" Joey cheered.
"I think Tea's doing better against Mai than you did." Tristan replied to Joey, with a snarky tone. Joey was a bit offended at his comment.
"WHOO-HOO! GO, TEA!" Jill cheered happily, as she jumped up from the ground
"Well done." Bakura smiled.
Mai's life points then went down to 1600, then she thought to herself as she looked down at her card, 'I almost forgot. My Harpy's Feather Duster. This card could win it for me.'
Then she picked up her card, which made Yugi shocked!
'Harpy's Feather Duster!' He thought, frantically.
"I surrender, Tea. I don't have the cards to win." Mai suddenly spoke up glumly, which made Tea surprised.
"Giving up just like that?" She asked, confusedly.
"Don't rub it in, Tea. Harpy Lady was the best monster I had, and seeing as how you beat me is really no point in me going on."
With that saying, Mai got out of the stadium with a bit of a cocky look on her face and body.
"I won! Hey!" Tea cheered, before she herself got out of the stadium, happier than ever.
"Yeah, way to go, Tea! You really came through for Yugi." Joey complimented.
"Whatever, I didn't need these anyway." Mai said, as she handed the star chips to Tea.
"Good match." Tea smiled, proud that she had just won the star chips for Yugi.
"Wait, Mai! I have to ask you something!" Yugi suddenly spoke up to Mai, before Mai stopped walking.
"Wasn't the last card--" Yugi started, but Mai cut him off.
"A throwaway. It was nothing that Tea wouldn't have been able to beat anyway, really."
"Huh?" Yugi asked, with a slight raised-eyebrow.
Then Mai held her thumb up and continued, "Some cards just aren't worth playing, huh, Yugi?"
Then she turned and walked away.
"Thank you." Yugi whispered, in awe.
"Yugi." Tea suddenly spoke up, before Yugi turned to face her.
"I, uh, I won these star chips for you." Tea said sheepishly, as she handed Yugi the star chips.
"I know. Thank you so much." Yugi smiled.
"Sure thing."
"I'll never forget what you did for me, Tea. You overcame your fears for me."
Then Yugi thought to himself with a determined look on his face, 'And you've given me courage to deal with mine, I will duel again! And hopefully, the consequences won't be as bad as I fear!'
"So take em already! You're making me blush." Tea giggled, blushing a bit.
"Thanks, you're the best." Yugi smiled gently, as he gratefully took the star chips out of Tea's hand. Jill just giggled at the sight.
"Welcome back!" Joey said, pumped up as ever.
"You really had us worried there for a while, Yug." Tristan chimed in.
"Hey, you losers! Last one to the castle door is a rotten egg!" Mai called out to the gang, as she was already at the stairs.
"Huh?" Everyone all questioned, slightly confused, before Yugi suddenly spoke up.
"Let's go!" Yugi cheered.
"Yeah!" The others agreed, before they all happily started running up the stairs.
"All right!" Jill cheered.
"Gang way!" Joey announced.
"You gang way!" Tea replied, giggling.
"Hey, wait up!" Bakura called out.
"And Tristan takes the lead." Tristan said, proudly.
"Not likely." Mai replied, laughing a bit.
