Meanwhile Yugi, Joey, Tristan, Bakura, Tea, and Jill turned the corner on a landing that led to still more yellowish stone steps.
"You'd think someone as rich as Pegasus would put in an elevator!" Joey remarked, with a snarky tone.
Suddenly, a lone figure stood on the top step, before the heavy iron door to the castle.
"Hey, guys, look! You're not gonna believe who's blocking our way into the castle!" Tristan warned the others, and there stood Seto Kaiba, metal briefcase on the ground next to him, arms folded across his chest in an attitude of superiority, wearing an expressionless frown that didn't fully match the caution in his eyes.
"It's Kaiba!" Yugi exclaimed, as his mouth fell open and his own eyes met the intensity of Kaiba's!
"The heck's he doin' here?" Joey asked, snidely.
"I can't let you pass, Yugi." Kaiba stated, boldly.
"I've won ten star chips. So stand aside." Yugi snapped back.
"You may've won enough star chips to qualify for the Duelist Kingdom playoffs, Yugi. But I can't allow you to face Pegasus. He's mine. You and I are going to have one final duel. You will lose, and I will win. The winds of change are blowing, Yugi Muto!"
With that saying, the wind around the steps stirred up dust around the gang's feet as they all stared up at Kaiba.
"Ugh! He's so smug up there!" Tea exclaimed, disgusted.
"That fucking traitor!" Jill replied to Tea, in agreement.
Kaiba thought to himself as he stared at the gang, 'Pegasus might be forcing me to fight Yugi, but it's a rematch I've wanted all along.'
With that, Yugi and his friends had climbed several more steps toward the top. Yugi repeated insistently, "Step aside, Kaiba!"
"Not until you agree to duel me!" Kaiba persisted, firmly.
"I'm not dueling you. I don't have to!" Yugi snapped back.
"So. No longer confident your so-called 'Heart of the Cards' can help you win? Or are you afraid you can't beat me without Exodia? That's it, isn't it, Yugi? You're just afraid you can't beat me a second time. You coward!" Kaiba taunted.
"You back off! He doesn't have to prove anything!" Tea snapped, as she stepped in.
"Yeah, so why don't you just fuck off and mind your own damn business before I arrest your ass!" Jill chimed in, swearing at Kaiba sharply.
"Ugghh, you wanna duel, smart-mouth? I'll take ya! Come on, let's duel!" Joey stepped in, prepared to fight Kaiba.
Kaiba just snickered to himself.
"Don't laugh!!" Joey snapped, before he went to fight Kaiba, but both Tristan and Bakura held Joey back from doing so.
"Joey, down, boy!" Tristan eased.
"Don't forget, when you battled him before, he slaughtered you!" Bakura reminded, in agreement.
With that saying, Joey slumped dramatically. They had a point...
"Like you could do any better?" Tea asked, sarcastically.
Tristan and Bakura both laughed nervously, which made Jill roll her eyes.
Kaiba's eyes narrowed as he spotted the duel glove on Joey's right hand.
"Ha! I can't believe the little barking chihuahua already has ten star chips! You earn them yourself, or did Yugi throw you a few bones?" Kaiba taunted, which made Joey more pissed off than ever.
"Grrrrr, don't call me a chihuahua! Grrrrr!" He snarled, as he tried to get out of Tristan and Bakura's grips, but they were still hanging onto Joey as best they could.
"You're acting like a chihuahua, Joey." Jill remarked, with a bit of an eye-roll.
Kaiba just snickered and said, "Don't let him snap his chain. There's no challenge in humiliating you again, Joey. There's only one player who's ever beaten me at Duel Monsters, and that's Yugi."
**Flashback**
Yami had Gaia the Fierce Knight on the field against Kaiba's Blue Eyes White Dragon.
"But how he did it is a mystery that still eats away at me! I was winning our battle, my Blue Eyes White Dragon was devastating his forces." Came Kaiba's voice, in explanation.
Kaiba's Blue Eyes destroyed Gaia. Yami guarded his face with one arm, then looked back to the field, teeth clenched with worry.
"His monsters couldn't stand up to its withering attacks. And then I drew my second Blue Eyes!" Kaiba continued.
Kaiba showed the second Blue Eyes card, and the dragon appeared in a stream of green light.
"I was invincible! Yugi thought the attack strength of his Dark Magician could stop me." Kaiba ranted, angrily.
Yami summoned Dark Magician, with 2500 attack points, against Kaiba's Judge Man, with 2200. The Dark Magician attacked, and the Judge Man shattered under the harsh, reverse color glare of the sorcerer's power.
Kaiba continued on as he was more pissed off than ever, "But he never dreamed I'd draw my third Blue Eyes, which blew his Magician away, obliterating his life points!"
The Blue Eyes appeared and blasted the Dark Magician. He dissolved in the bright light of the attack, and Yami was assailed by strong winds, and his life points decreased to 400, against Kaiba's 1000.
"But then..." Kaiba suddenly added.
"And now I'll play, the unstoppable Exodia!" Yami taunted, as he took out the card of Exodia.
An eight-pointed star appeared out of a void on Yami's side of the field.
"Just as he was on the verge of defeat, Yugi somehow achieved the unachievable!" Kaiba continued ranting.
Through one of the star's points emerged an arm, then another through the opposite point, then Exodia's head appeared in the middle of the star as the great behemoth pulled itself from it's prison and faced the three Blue Eyes White Dragons, which were now looking decisively smaller.
"He assembled all five pieces of Exodia!" He continued, getting a little exasperated.
Kaiba stumbled a few steps back on his platform, terrified, "Exodia! Aah, it's not possible! No one's ever been able to call him!"
"But somehow, he had!!" Kaiba replied to himself, even more exasperated.
Exodia concentrated energy between its massive palms, and then used it to blow away all three Blue Eyes in a blaze of golden light.
Kaiba screamed as the blaze obscured him from view...
**End of flashback**
"Yugi, you said you won by tapping into the Heart of the Cards, and for a long time I didn't know what that meant. But now, I think I do. And it took Pegasus to show me." Kaiba stated firmly, before he took his locket from under his shirt and clicked it open. A much younger Mokuba smiled up at him."He gave me a reason to put my heart in the cards." Kaiba explained, before he could hear Mokuba's voice call out to him...
"Help me, big brother!"
'I will help you, Mokuba! There's not a power on Earth that will stop me. Not Pegasus, not Yugi!' Kaiba thought to himself, as he made a promise to his little brother.
Then he talked out loud, "For the first time, Yugi, I can duel with fire and passion in my heart!"
With that saying, Kaiba's eyes literally seemed to be aflamed.
"I can feel it!" Yugi commented in awe, before he thought to himself in observation for a moment.
'Kaiba has changed, I can sense it. He's fighting for more than just himself this time. There's a new belief, in the Heart of the Cards!'
"Yugi, what the hell are you doing?!" Jill exclaimed, in disbelief.
"You can't accept this duel!" Bakura agreed, with the same level of disbelief.
"You've already earned enough star chips to get into the castle." Tea chimed in.
"I've changed, I deserve a rematch. Give me a chance to play you now, Yugi. Let me play you for the right reasons." Kaiba pleaded, firmly.
Yugi thought to himself for a moment, 'After all grandpa's taught me, how can I deny the Heart of the Cards?'
Then he began to change into Yami Yugi, and when he did, he just boldly looked at Kaiba as the eye appeared on his forehead.Tea dumbfoundedly watched Yami, as he exchanged a challenging smile.
'It's happened again! Yugi suddenly seems different!' She thought to herself, in awe.
Yami climbed a few more steps toward Kaiba as he said, "Kaiba, I accept your duel! We'll see what you've really learned. You just name the place!"
Kaiba replied with a satisfied, though not entirely friendly, smile, and picked up his briefcase.
"Our dueling field has been prepared. Follow me." He instructed confidently, before he turned to walk, and the others followed him as they were instructed.
At the top of a high castle wall, Yami and Kaiba faced off on the crenellated ramparts of the sandstone-gold castle, with a stone walkway between them. Joey, Tristan, Bakura, Tea, and Jill stood on the walkway halfway between them that led to the rest of the wall, looking tense.
"All right, Kaiba, it's time to duel!" Yami announced firmly, as he was prepared to fight Kaiba.
