I was so caught up in my own shitty feelings about her past relationship with Matt that I almost didn't see Lisa enter the club. I knew that I was fucked once Kristen recognized her and my immediate thought was to leave. It's just that I couldn't handle a fight, or the negative publicity it would bring. Fans didn't like that kind of stuff and I just knew there would be photos leaked all over social media.
Kristen may be little, but I knew that she would beat the implants out of Lisa if given the opportunity. "Fuck," I mumbled, not realizing that I was drawing attention to the one person I'd hoped to avoid.
Kris never missed a thing, she shot me the look of disgust when she noticed Lisa, and I suggested we leave. Ashley kind of pissed me off with her comments that only tempted Kristen to start a fight. I liked her a lot, and Ashley had built herself a nice little photography business, but she could also be very immature when drinking and Kristen didn't need that. Just as quickly as she suggested a brawl, I insisted we leave before things got out of control. Relief washed over me when Ashley reluctantly agreed.
Unfortunately, Lisa had the balls to come over and whisper into my ear, reminding me of our rendezvous in New York. Kristen spun around and the next thing I knew, drinks were flying.
I had to get her out of there before things escalated. Oddly enough, it was Matt who helped out, stopping Lisa's buddy from harming a hair on Kristen's head. May he be wasn't such a bad guy after all. Granting him a nod, I ushered her out of the club and directly to my truck, not even bothering to look back for Ashley and James.
Kristen was furious as she slammed the door and folded her arms. I climbed inside and inserted the key, starting the ignition and driving away. She never said a word to me, but anger was written all over her face. I purposely drove in the opposite direction of the house, toward the beach, feeling a fight coming on.
At first she didn't seem to notice, but then realized we were driving away from home. "Where are you going?!" She snapped, frowning.
"Don't worry about it." I said calmly, not wanting to fight. About twenty minutes later I parked the truck and got out, jogging around to her side. I opened the door and took her hand, ready to help her down. I sighed when she snatched it back and kicked her heels off before climbing out without my help. She strolled on ahead of me with her arms folded, and I shoved my hands in my pockets.
Catching up with her, I staggered next to her, desperate to keep up with her fast pace. "You just gonna stay mad at me now?" I asked, watching her look out to the water, her hair blowing all over the place.
"What do you want me to say Jared? One time? I don't believe you! She was trying to talk to you... It had to be more than once, otherwise what the hell could she possibly have to say?" I stopped walking when she did, and sat down in the sand. I knew that her mind was still evaluating everything that happened tonight, but she was fuming mad.
"I already told you Kristen, it was one time. The only reason she wanted to talk to me was to start trouble between us. She knew that you and I were there together and wanted to ruin our night. It's not my fault!" It really pissed me off that I didn't do anything wrong and here she was angry all over again over an issue I assumed we moved past. For the past week we had progressed and now this.
"I'd rather not speak to you right now!" She hissed, letting me know that she wanted me out of her face. I got up and marched back to the truck to get a blanket. Always thinking of her, I knew it was extremely windy and she had nothing on her arms.
After wrapping the blanket around her, I sat down in the sand next to her. "If you're too cold, we can go to the truck."
"I'm fine!" She snapped, shoving my hands away from her. I realized that she had a reason to be upset, but taking her anger out on me just wasn't right. She glanced over at me, "Do you realize how badly I wanted to punch her in the face?" Wiping away a few tears, she focused her attention back on the water. "I wanted to hit you when I saw her whispering in your ear!" She scoffed and I realized that I hadn't seen her this angry in a long time.
I moved to my knees in front of her, lifting her hand and holding it in front of me. "You want to hit me? Do it! Fuck! If that will make you feel better, go for it!"
